We tried something new July 7th, by holding a round robin DBA Ancients event with 10 players. With 90 games to get in during a day's play, time was a factor. However, I ended up calling only one game due to time, and another game did not get run, giving us a 97.8% completion factor. A couple of games later in the day exceeded the time limit, but at that point, there was no pressure to move those games along, so we played them out. The 10 gamers were mostly from the Rochester area, but a father and son came from Wisconsin, and a new wargamer came up with me from Pennsylvania. So, it was definitely more cosmopolitan than earlier events we've held. There was the typical bias towards blade armies, there were also pikes, scythed chariots, warbands, knights, and spears roaming the battlefields. We charged a $5 entry fee to cover the trophies and simple lunch of hot dogs, drinks and chips we provided. This small fee pretty well covered our costs, but I don't believe the guys left much on the table! Thanks to Dave Abraham for providing the venue and cooking the hot dogs. It was such a nice day we played in his brand new garage for a (nearly) outdoor tournament. William "Zip" Connelly's undefeated Early Seleucid army took 1st prize, with Dick Keyel's Marian Romans coming all the way from Wisconsin for 2nd place. The Quartermaster provided a Mongol DBA army for a prize, which champion Zip passed on to Bradford's Rob Ferguson, the newest wargamer in the group, who played with a borrowed Viking army to come in 6th in the event. It is Rob's first army, so he'll probably be borrowing paints from me to get it ready for battle! A very generous gesture on Zip's part! Congratulations to everyone for their long day's work!
