Moros Bloody Nose of US Troops

"Take the Fort"

by Scott Hansen

Here is an after action report on the "Take the Fort" U.S./Moro miniatures event I ran at Michicon. On the event proposal form, I wrote that the game would involve the U.S. assaulting a fort held by the Moros in the Philippines. The event listing stated it was Moari's, even though the Moari's were in New Zealand! All of my 4 players realized this anyway.

The scenario had two U.S. Columns with 40 men each trying to take a fort held by 240 Moros. The game is skirmish style and the rules are based on "Brother Against Brother" without the cards. The players wanted me to play, so I took a U.S. Column.

My units kept falling back because they couldnÕt pass a morale check at 70%. They kept shooting up the Moro units, and were near several weak Moro units. They eventually wiped these out. Doug, who commanded the other U.S. column, was holding his own until the Moro players concentrated their attacks and killed 30 U.S. Infantry.

Overall, the game was quite bloody and a stalemate. This was due to my old gaming buddy, Rob Stauch, passing morale checks with Moro units at 30%! The game felt more like a comedy fest with everybody cracking jokes and making comments. Thanks to all of my players for being good sports and making good suggestions to my rules. IÕve sent the rules to the Heliograph newsletter. If you want a copy, please e-mail me at hansens@genrad.com.

I was also going to run a Russo-Japanese War land battle on Sunday, but canceled due to a family illness. The rules were published in MWAN #100. If you want a copy of them as well, e-mail me.
