By the numbers, our convention was a success. We had 75 paid attendees and about 10 visitors. HMGS Great Lakes also gained 10 new members. Additional money was made by the sale of T-shirts at the con. The actual numbers were 22 players in five games on Friday night and 86 players in 18 events on Saturday. Thatis 4.6 players per game! Overall, a good enough result to insure the return of Drums next year. Almost exclusively, problems that occurred during the convention were caused by the hotel staff, which will always be a concern at any location. Several events were canceled due to GM problems or schedule "flat spots." It is agreed that only 25 more gamers would have filled the gaps completely. Let me add a personal note. I wish that all of the games could have been filled to the GM's requests. I have run games that were not filled and it does make you feel depressed. Next year it will be better. Many of you have been discussing the possible addition of non-historical games to our conventions. I think that we should strengthen the core first and run our events at the other conventions to introduce new people to the hobby. Letis not take the history out of historical gaming! Hope to see you ALL next year at Drums! Back to The Herald 36 Table of Contents Back to The Herald List of Issues Back to MagWeb Master Magazine List © Copyright 2000 by HMGS-GL.
