Thoughts from the Oval Office

Conventions and Stores

by Matt Davidson

New GL Conventions

I will keep it brief this time. Drums Along the Maumee seems to be shaping up nicely, so far, thanks to the Colby Street Irregulars. Positive comments of interest have been received from some of our Michigan members, as well as others. So, support seems to be there for this event. War Party in Cincinnati is coming up in April, so all you guys in the southern end of the region come on out and help make it a success.

I would like to see small events such as this spring up in other areas of the region as well. Indianapolis, Cleveland, Lexington, Louisville, Charleston, Wheeling, Pittsburgh, Erie, Buffalo, Hamilton (Ontario), or wherever there is interest and Great Lakes members who are willing to volunteer to run the event. The Board is open to suggestions, so let us know and let's get events going in the whole region. We have the flagship (Advance the Colors), and a couple ships (Drums Along the Maumee and Warparly), let's build a fleet!

The Soldiery Dayton

I want to mention a couple things about the game days at The Soldiery, Dayton. The Manager, Mark Lauber, has started a Tuesday night (6pm- 9pm) "rules tryout" -- a chance to try out a new rules system every Tuesday. So far, Piquet, Habitants and Highlanders, Guns of Liberty, and Patriots and Loyalists have been played. Others are planned. All historical periods, rules and scales are welcome. This is an interesting idea, and I thought I'd pass it along. Also, the 4th Friday of the month game day is being phased out. Lack of available time for those of us who were running these Friday night events is the main reason. We will still have the second Sunday of the month game days.

If anyone is interested in running events at The Soldiery Dayton on a second Sunday (12 - 6 pm), please contact me. I'll work your event in.

That's about all for this issue. Have a happy and safe Holiday season!
