HMGS Great Lakes Needs You

Board of Directors

by Ray Garbee,
Chairman of the Board of Directors,
HMGS Great Lakes

HMGS Great Lakes seeks individuals with a vision for the future. Let me rephrase that: Great Lakes NEEDS individuals with a vision for the future. Perhaps people like you?

The term of office for the current board of directors is expiring. If you've ever sat in a membership meeting and asked, "why are there no Great Lakes-sponsored events in Michigan, or Cleveland?" or "Why doesn't Great Lakes have a higher profile at Origins?" -- then this is your chance to step up and make your ideas reality. Run for the board of directors! Great Lakes needs people that care about historical miniatures gaming. People with ideas on how to fulfill our primary mission of "promoting the hobby."

In hockey, you rotate your players depending on the state of the game. The five current members of the board consist of one rookie four long-term veterans. These veterans have served a *minimum* of two terms each. That is at least four years spent in the service of HMGS Great Lakes. At least two of these five have already indicated that they will not be returning to the board, though they plan to continue supporting Great Lakes in other capacities.

HMGS Great Lakes has made huge strides since its rocky beginnings. Our rank and file tops 225, the newsletter comes out six times a year, we've got not one, but two major conventions, an awesome web site, and gamedays galore! Now we stand at a crossroads. One road leads to apathy and entropy -- eroding the gains that Great Lakes has made these past years. The other road leads to more gaming, more camaraderie and solid alternatives to the six-hour plus drives to historical gaming conventions. Which road do you want Great Lakes to follow?

Are you up to the challenge? Can a group of 225 allegedly concerned wargamers find more than five members that have a vision for the future? If you think you're up to it, send a short declaration of candidacy along with your vision for the future to The Herald.

The ballot for election of the Board of Directors (BOD) will be included with Herald #33. It you care enough about the future of HMGS Great Lakes, don't sit on the bench any longer -- GET IN THE GAME!
