Fort Recovery, Fort Niagara

Here are a couple Regional Historical Groups that are worth supporting:

The Perry Group

Put-In-Bay, OH 43456
Supports the Perry Victory and International Peace Memorial on South Bass Island in Lake Erie. Scene of Perry's naval victory during the War of 1812. It is currently working to build a Visitors Center at the memorial. Memberships are $20 for Single or Family, $100 for Patron or Corporation, and $1000 Lifetime.

Fort Recovery State Museum
P.O. Box 533
Ft. Recovery, OH 45846
Supports the Fort Recovery Museum, site of two battles against the Indians in the 1790s, including the worst defeat of a United States military force at the hands of the Indians (sorry, folks, it ain't Little Big Hornl!). Membership entitles members to free admission and a 10% discount on purchases made at the museum. Costs are $10 (Richard Butler Patron), $25 - $49 (Anthony Wayne Patron), $50 - $99 (St. Clair Patron), or $100 or more (Presidential Patron).

Ft. Niagra's Late Year Events 1999

Here is a listing of events that will be held at Fort Niagara in 1999:

Oct. 9-10: "The Fur Trade Frontier." Ft. Niagara becomes a wilderness trading post once again, as trappers, traders and visitors join together to depict the site's early history.

October: "Historic Hauntings Evening Fund-Raiser." The fortress is haunted by spirits from its past. Tickets advance sale only.

Dec. 11-12 and 18-19: "Candlelight Tours Evening FundRaiser." Tours of the French Castle by candlelight.
