Thoughts from the Oval Office

National Board News

by Matt Davidson

I will be attending the National Board meeting at Historicon later this month. As current Chairman of the National Board, I have set the Agenda for the meeting to include only the main issue before the National Board. That is the vote on whether to dissolve or keep the current National system, as well as working on a new National system in the event of dissolution. As I stated a few issues ago, the poll of all 11 Chapters, indicates (9-2) in favor of dissolving the old system and building a new system that is both accountable and functional.

The meeting will be closed with only one representative from each full chapter and the National Coordinator present. I will not be presiding over the meeting, as the office of chairman rotates to the next chapter upon the start of Historicon. The new chairman will be Hilton McManus of the Gulf South Chapter. I will report on the results next issue, so stay tuned.

I took on the position of National Board Rep in an interim capacity, but I have agreed to stay on until the Historicon meeting is concluded. That meeting will soon be history and we need a volunteer to fill the position of National Rep. Any HMGS- Great Lakes member can contact myself, or any other board member, if you wish to volunteer. We will then choose the most qualified applicant. One big thing that has been necessary in recent months is e-mail capability. Currently, the entire board is linked by e-mail and things have become vastly easier, communication wise, than they had been previously.

Hey, Command Decision players!

For any Command Decision 3 players out there: There will be a CD3 mini-campaign at Advance the Colors this year. It is called "Race for Tunis." It will be played as a series of days, each a set length of time. Movement is by strategic map and the battles fought on a number of tables. The rules and order of battle have been designed by Greg Novak, Frank Chadwick, Tom Harris and John Holtz. Jerry Merrel from the Internet CD Mailing List will be the organizer, and a number of CD3 players from the Mailing list will be in attendance, including Greg Novak.

I am currently working on organizing many of the miniatures and terrain for the event. I am currently seeking additional trucks (any nationality), in particular, so if you have any you wouldn't mind lending to the event, contact me. The scale is 15mm and the area is Tunisia in late '42. There will be plenty of commands for those with at least some experience with the CD3 rules. Battalion/KG level commands include French, British, American, German and Italian troops. I will be acting as a tactical referee. If any experienced CD3 player wishes to volunteer as a tactical referee, please contact me. This promises to be quite an event that will last all day Saturday, with a planning session Friday evening.

That about covers it for now. I hope to see you all at Advance the Colors'99!
