Thoughts from the Oval Office

HMGS-GI Waiver

by Matt Davidson

Just a few things to cover this time. First, I have started my own site. It is linked to the HMGS-Great Lakes main page, recently put up by Ray Garbee and Darryl Smith. My site will feature photos of games from conventions, game days, and other HMGS events. Currently, there are a pictures, provided by Scott Savory, from the recent Capcon convention in April at OSU. HMGS-Great Lakes members, feel free to send me photos of your local historical miniature games or ones you may have run at a recentt con. I will rotate the pictures every several weeks. My snail-mail address is on the front inside cover of The Herald and my e-mail address is @your-net.com , if you want to try and e-mail me a "jpg." My site address is http://Www3.your-net.com/~jmd . Please specify if you wish to have your photo returned.

Next, I would like to briefly address a letter to the editor from last issue. David Doty mentioned that Pete Panzeri has ended his attempt to pubblish HMGS-Gamers International as a full Chapter, and has decided to form an affiliate to both East and MidSouth Chapters. This is true, but the decision was his. The only problem the other chapters ever had with HMGS-GI becoming a full member was that they should meet the same requirements as every other chapter -- something they had fallen short of doing.

In other words, why have requirements it they don't apply equally to all? I don't want anybody to get the impression that any of us doesn't appreciate the efforts of Pete Panzeri to promote the hobby. HMGS-Gl is in operation, just not as a full Chapter, so we can still benefit from what it to offer. I would caution anyone viewing the discussions on the internet newsgroups that official HMGS business is NOT conducted there, despite who might be posting.

HMGS National will hold it's big meeting at Historicon in July. As you may recall, the main issue is the official dissolution of the current National Board of Directors system and the building of a new national system -- one that will work and be a benefit to the hobby.

Lastly, I would mention the loss of The Hobby Place in West Chester, OH. They closed their doors and will be missed. Thanks, Steve, for providing a place to run historical miniature games and a nice place to shop. That's it for this issue, and good historical miniatures gaming to all!
