Thoughts from the Oval Office

Convention Season

by Matt Davidson

Just when I thought winter was about done, we get hit with another winter storm. Oh well, another opportunity to get some projects done.

The Convention season is coming up and I hope many of you are going to Capcon in April. There has been a real need for historical miniatures games at this convention for the last several years. Last year, we actually made a decent showing. Hopefully, we can give gamers at Capcon this year a wide selection of historical miniatures games to choose from. So, if you want to help out and run something, contact Guy Flora. If not, just show up and participate in some first rate events.

The local game days in Dayton and Cincinnati have gotten going and are doing nicely. We have had some very nice events run at both The Soldiery in Kettering and The Hobby Place in West Chester. Check the listings in this issue and come on out! The game days at The Soldiery Columbus North and East have some really great games as well. Please attend, they need your support. The GMs go to a lot of effort, and your visit will be well worth your time.

Advance the Colors'99 is coming along very nicely. Planning is well underway and it looks like we will have a first rate show.

The HMGS National Board Poll that I mentioned in the last issue, has been completed. The results are as follows: For dissolving the current National Board of Directors AND replacing It with a less centralized national organization. AYE (9 votes): HMGS East, Pacific SouthWest, Gulf South, South, Great Lakes, Tornado Alley, West, Heart of America, and Pacific North West. NAY (2 votes): Mid South and Mid West

Also a question on how to handle the National Treasury was asked and the majority of the Chapters favored dispersing the funds back to the chapters that paid them in, based on the proportion that each Chapter has actually contributed. What this all means is that there will be a new National Organization, and one that will be less of a governing body and more of a coordinating body. The details are being worked out now, and an official meeting will be held at Historicon to work out this business once and for all.

I think this poll is the most coordination all 11 chapters have managed, to date, and e-mail has made all the difference. Bill Gray, the National Coordinator, has helped a great deal. Check out the HMGS (National) web site: (http://home.earthlink.net/~hmgs/index.htm). It contains all this info and quite a bit more of use to HMGS members.

That's about it for this time. So until next time, Good Historical Miniatures Gaming!
