Military Miniatures

by Ray Garbee

Military Miniatures has produced a fine example of the Scott M8 HMC. The kit -- resin hull and turret with pewter tracks and HMG -- was cleanly cast. The hull and turret were well formed and complete. The tracks had minimal flash. The pieces fit together perfectly no need to file these parts! Assembly took less than 10 minutes with quick set gap filled glue and a small amount of CA accelerant.

The hull is a stock M5 chassis fitted with a new turret for the 75L16 howitzer. The dimensions of the Military Miniatures M8 check out against scale plans from AFV News. Both length and width were within 2% of 15mm dimensions using the "O'Leary scale" (see last issue - Editor). Height was a bit distorted, with the model scaling in a foot taller than the plans indicated. This discrepancy is split evenly between the hull and the turret.

The kit paints up sharp. No crew are included - you should add at least one figure to the open-topped casting to improve the look of the model.

One word of caution: The Military Miniatures resin bodies tend to absorb some paint, leaving a lighter shade than might have been intended. Start with a black primer coat to avoid this problem. Otherwise, this is an excellent addition to your 15mm collection.
