About a year ago, I started collecting WWII microarmor for use with "Spearhead" rules, which calls for figures to be mounted on 1 1/4" square bases. I decided to use magnetized bases for my troops. To build a storage system, I purchased some inexpensive 10" x 14" cookie sheets from Odd Lots. The magnets adhere quite well to these. I found a Rubbermaid storage box that was the proper dimensions for the cookie sheets. Inside measurements are roughly 16" x 12" x 6". Next, I bought a rectangular strip of unfinished wold moulding, approximately 1/2" x 3/4". I cut the molding into 8" long pieces and glued these to the tops of the handle-like ends of the cookie sheets using Duco household cement. After the glue dries, the cookie sheets can be stacked with the wood strips acting as spacers. With each sheet holding 70 troop stands, and each Rubbermiad box containing six loaded cookie sheets, thats 420 troops stands per box. The nice part about this system is that the Rubbermaid boxes have a handle where the lid snaps closed, allowing it to be carried like a briefcase. the magnetic bases hold securely to the cookie sheets, even when stacked vertically.
