Top 10 Reasons
to Attend Origins '98

Pros about Con

by Pete Panzeri

Last year's 1997 Origins Project for HMGS was a smashing success with well over 100 exciting miniatures games. Since HMGS is invading ORIGINS again July 2-5, we present the Top 10 Reasons to attend Origins:

#1 The historical miniatures GAME QUALITY is HOT: -- All the top HMGS premier gamemasters will be there. Frank Chadwick will run his "Command Decision 3" and "Volley and Bayonet." Pete Panzeri's "Remember the Alamo" and "Little Big Horn," with 25mm Old Glory Miniatures, will be run. Both games are huge, 20-player, 1:1 scale games. Both won "Best of Show" awards at Cold Wars 98 and Fall-In'97.

#2 The historical miniatures GAME SELECTION is HOT: -- Hundreds of open historical games to choose from: Mike Demana's spectacular "Scottish Clans at Culloden," Chris Von Fahnestock's massive 15mm "Eastern Front Offensive" and Bill Acheson's exciting Ben Hur chariot races (in the beautiful 54mm scale).

#3 The Historical Miniatures GAME AVAILABILITY is HOT: -- These games are always open. They will NOT all be full at Origins. While many events fill up at Cold Wars and Historicon, 90% of the Origins games are always wide open (and open spots in Red Ribbon games are always free!).

#4 The PROFESSIONAL CONVENTION SERVICE is HOT: -- The Andon Origins Game reservation system is fully automated and computerized. You can preregister for as many games as you like.

# 5 HMGS SPECIAL PACKAGE DEAL is HOT: -- All HOT'98 attendees get a special deal, including a $5 discount to pre-register. The HOT-Ribbon for UNLIMITED HMGS gaming costs that same $5 (otherwise there is a $1.25 ticketing fee to use the computer reservation system to reserve game slots). Walk-up spots in HMGS games are always free.

#6 The CONVENTION SITE is HOT: -- The Columbus Convention center has the most expansive gaming space, spectacular exhibit areas and a food court "to die for!"

#7 The HOLIDAY WEEKEND is HOT: -- Andon selected the summer weekend when more potential gamers wanted a convention -- a holiday weekend, when they were free to come.

#8 The HISTORICAL SEMINARS are HOT! -- An exceptional docket of War College Seminars, Historical Exhibits and special displays. These things are really first class -- see the pre-reg booklet.

#9 The VENDOR AREA is HOT! -- It will take you all four days to work your way through the Origins Exhibit area. Historical gaming supplies will be at an all-time peak at Origins this year.

#10 The Historical Miniatures Gaming SOCIETY is HOT! -- HOT'98 is sponsored by the HMGS National Board, East, Great Lakes and International. All have contributed man hours and resources to promote it.
