Our new editor, Mike Demana, recently received a shipment of figures from Wargames Foundry, and he generously gave me several packs from their 25mm American Civil War line. These figures are 28mm tall from head to foot, and are sculpted by Alan and Michael Perry, according to the The Foundry. ACWZ4, Zouave, Tasseled Fez, Running. Figure wears the classic "baggy" zouave trousers tucked into high gaiters and the short zouave jacket. Also visible is the wide sash worn under the waist belt. The tasseled fez is also worn, without the turban (which, if I understand correctly, was often done by zouave units in the field). Equipment includes haversack, cartridge box, canteen, and field pack topped with blanket roll. He is carrying the musket in the right hand. The musket and hand are cast separately. This pack contains eight figures and features a variety of different heads and head positions. ACWZ6, Zouave Command, Assorted Headgear. This pack consists of seven different figures: two drummers (one standing, one advancing); two standard bearers (again, one standing, one advancing); one NCO holding his musket in his right hand and pointing with the left (like the zouaves, the musket and hand are cast separately from the rest of the figure). These five figures all wear the tasseled fez. There are two officers wearing the kepi instead of the fez. One is standing, wearing frock coat, holding saber and pointing. The other holds his saber in his left hand and a pistol in his right; his right arm is cast separately and can therefore be glued in a variety of positions. ACWCav1AX, Cavalry Troopers One & ACWCav1BX, Cavalry Command One. These packs each contain four horses and riders. The troopers all wear the kepi and shell jacket. All four figures in each pack are different and are armed with carbines, pistols and sabers. One in the trooper pack has two right arms -- one with a saber, the other a pistol -- allowing a choice of armament. The command pack includes an officer (who is wearing a frock coat instead of the shell jacket), a standard bearer, and a bugler (who has musician's braid on the front of his jacket). The officer's right arm (with saber) and the buglers right arm (with bugle) are cast separately, and may be glued in a variety of positions. The horses are in a variety of trotting/galloping poses, and are cast with horse furniture (blankets, saddles, etc.). ACWCav1. Cavalry Troopers Dismounted One. This pack contains eight figures and are dismounted versions of the ones described above. Each is unique. Two troopers are kneeling with carbine, the rest are standing. One is firing carbine; one is firing pistol; one looks like a horse holder; the standard bearer is drawing his pistol; the bugler is standing; and the officer holds a saber and is heroically gesturing to his men. All figures are very high quality, with crisp detail and almost no flash or casting flaws. The cavalry figures are particularly nice. They'll be a pleasure to paint. Although not specified as such, these would probably be more suitable for Union soldiers. The Foundry catalog features photographs of all the figures, and the rest of the line looks as good. According to the listing, the foot packs are $10.00, while the mounted packs are $12.00.
