CapCon XXI

April 18, 1998

by Ray Garbee

Every spring the gamers at Ohio State University put on an excellent general gaming convention called CAPCON. It was the first game convention I ever attended and has been a favorite for many years. I could find almost any kind of historical event and an incredibly diverse game auction.

Sadly, the past few years have seen a general reduction in historical games and the corresponding attendance of historical gamers at CAPCON. HMGS-Great Lakes can change this. The overriding mission of HMGS is to "promote the hobby". What better opportunity to promote the hobby than to show off quality historical miniature gaming at a great regional general gaming convention?

Lets show the flag! I'm issuing a challenge to each and every Great Lakes member to make Saturday, April 18th, 1998 historical gaming day at CAPCON. Run a historical game! Show up and play in a historical game! Bring your leftover lead and old rules and put them in the auction! Spend the day showing the rest of the "adventure gaming" crowd what they are missing!

Okay, you're stoked! You're ready to storm the gates! You're ready to (gasp!) run a game! We need to get these games registered with the folks at OSU and spread the word to the Great Lakes membership.

Join me in our quest to show the HMGS-GL flag and do the following. First, contact Guy Flora at OSU and let him know you want to run an event. You can reach Guy at flora.1@osu.edu or call him at (614) 688-3556. Second, e-mail me at Garbee@aol.com and let me know what game you plan on running and when. If you don't have e-mail, then send me a copy care of the newsletter. I'll take the results and plug them into the next newsletter and tack them up at local hobby shops.

I'll be gaming at CAPCON. Will YOU?
