Membership Growth

by Brian O'Leary

In the last year and a half Great Lakes has established constant membership growth (to about 140), regular frequency of gamedays, and successful cons and profitable conventions.

The current BOD has hopes to keep this growth going, but it will take a group effort. We would like to establish activities for members outside of south western and central Ohio areas, but we need new members to become active to do this. If you have an interest in helping, but don't know what to do, please contact one of the BOD members . Their addresses and phone numbers are listed in this newsletter, and any of us would be happy to assist you

One of our members suggested that we have a regular column that introduces an historical period each issue; since, we have so many new gainers in Great Lakes. As I nearly escaped from high school thinking that the Boxer Rebellion was a riot at a golden gloves match; I think this is a good idea. The column could cover an entire conflict or a portion there of, such as the North African Campaign in WWII. The column wouldn't require the same person to write it each month, and I envision it as typically only being one to two pages. I'd appreciate any responses.

Please note the correct date for Cold Wars, Mar 14-16, in the Convention Calendar. Also note that Origins is scheduled for Columbus through 2002. This provides an interesting opportunity for Great Lakes to introduce historical miniatures to board and card gainers. Games Scheduled after Jan 31 will be listed in the convention program, but not the pre-reg book.

If you are a member of a game club that is open to new members, please send me some information. Several of our new members are looking for people or groups to game with.

There is a possibility of an LIMOS minicon in the spring. It would probably be in late April or early May and located in Delaware, Ohio. For more information call Ron Bixel at 614363-3667.
