Notes on the Kettering

Game Convention

by Matt Davidson

The Kettering Game Convention is a small convention dealing with all sorts of games. It is held in the spring and the fall of each year in Kettering, Ohio. It has been the mission of the local historical miniature game clubs to run historical miniature games at this con. to promote our hobby by showing up and running games. The highlights of this con. was a very nice 10mm ACW game. The first day at Gettysburg was the scenario and specifically the initial fight between the Union XI Corps and parts of Rhodes and Early's Divisions under Ewell for the Confederates. They used the just released Jonny Reb III playtest rules. From all accounts the game played well. Two of our own HMGS-GL members ran this event, Bob French and Bill Weber.

There was a Seven Years War game and a ACW naval game put on by the Greater Dayton Wargamers Club. These events drew a respectable gathering , including some youngsters.

Two HMGS-GL members, Bob Knecht and Bob French, put on a massive WWII micro battle of Prokhorovka (Kursk) using the Spearhead rules. This was both visually impressive and enjoyable as well.

That was about it for historical miniatures events, but we were well represented. The next Kettering Game Convention is slated for October 18, and 19th of 1996.
