This Civil War battlefield is located near State Route 65 at Sharpsburg Maryland, twelve miles south of Hagerstown. The battlefield is beautifully maintained, loaded with memorials that help tell the story of the battle, has an observation tower that overlooks most of the battlefield area, and there is a nice indoor museum with an introductory movie. Antietem is located near a number of other historical sites and is a must if you are in the area. The photos show Burnside's Bridge and a portion of "Bloody Lane", prominent features of the battlefield.
