In issue number 92, Ron Lizorty and I took a look at colonial movies and attempted to give the readers a guide of sorts. With the growth in the field of "western wargaming," I thought that the reader might be interested in being given another guide to westerns this time. While the western is thought by many to be American as apple pie, not all westerns are filmed in the United States. In fact it is interesting to note that westerns have been filmed in: Canada, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Yugoslavia, and Australia. So here we go. 1) Abilene Town 1946 89m Randolph Scott, Ann Dvorak. Scott plays the sheriff who must maintain the peace between ranchers and homesteaders. 2) Alamo 1960 161+m John Wayne. Good action movie. 3) Alamo 15 Days to Glory 95m TV Miniseries of the same battle 4) Ambush 1949 82m Robert Taylor, Arlene Dahl Great MGM action picture based upon the Luke Short novel. Lots of Indian versus Apache battles. 5) Ambush at Cimmeron Pass 1958 73m Scott Brady and Clint Eastwood. This was Eastwoods first western prior to the series Rawhide. 6) Ambush at Tomahawk Gap 1953 Color 73m John Hodiak and John Derek. Four ex-cons are ambushed by apaches and only one manages to escape to tell the tale. 7) Angel and the Badman 1946 100m John Wayne Gail Russel. Lots of action as wayne is a gunman who sees the light. Good movie. 8) Apache Ambush 1955 68m Bill Williams 9) Apache 1954 Color 91m Burt Lancaster. Lancaster plays an Apache who fights a one-man war against the US Army when the Army refuses to leave him and his family alone. 10) Apache Drums 1951 color 75m Stephen MeNally. This picture is interesting for a number of reasons. The townspeople are defending a church and to wipe out the sound of the Apache drums they sing the hymn Men at Arms in Welsh. 11) Apache Rifles 1964 color 92m Audie Murphy, J. Pat O'Malley, Linda Lawson. Murphy is a cavalry officer assigned to bringing in the Apache Raiders. 12) Apache Territory 1966 color 75m Rory Calhound. 13) Apache Uprising 1966 color 9Om Rory Calhound. Rory takes on both Apaches and Outlaws. 14) Apache Warrior 74m Keith Larsen, Jim Davis 15) Apache War Smoke 1952 67m Gilbert Roland Robert Horton A stagecoach robbery and Indian attacks fill up the action part of this picture. 16) Arizona 1940 127m Jean Arthur, William Holden. This well-made western is the stroy of the struggle of the people to settle the Arizona territory in the face of Indian attack, the Civil War and problems with outlaws. 17) Arrowhead 1953 color 105m Charlton Heston Brian Keith, Jack Palance. Heston plays an army scout who knows the Apaches and who has to fight army stupidity to prevent a massacre. Lots of action. 18) At Gunpoint 1955 color 81m Fred MacMurray, Dorothy Malone. MacMurray is the only hope for a town facing Outlaws. 19) The Badlanders 1958 Color 83m Alan Ladd Ladd leads a good cast in a tale of robbery of a gold shipment. 20) Badman's Territory 1946 97m Randolph Scott Scott is the sherif who is left helpless when outlaws enter territory in which he has no power. 21) Badgirls 1994 color 104m Madeline Stowe. Madeline leads a cast in a story Of girls on the run from a corrupt legal system that refuses to accept the truth in that the killing was in self defense because the widow has money. 22) Badmen of Missouri 1941 74m Dennis Morgan. Well made 1940's western. 23) The Big Sky 1952 127m Kirk Douglas. This is the tale of exploration up the Missouri River country. 24) The Big Country 1958 Color 166m Cregory Peck Charlton Heston, Chuck Conors. A must see Western Classic with a great cast and plenty of action. 25) The Big Trail 1931 110m John Wayne. Wayne's first major role often overlooked but an interesting picture. 26) Bend of the River 1952 color 91m James Stewart Rock Hudson. 27) Billy the Kid 1941 95m Robert Taylor. 28) Blood River Made for TV Western Lots of action. 29) Border River 1954 color 80m Joel McCrea. 30) The Bountyman 1972 color 73m Clint Walker Richard Basehart. Clint Walker is a bounty hunter out to bring in outlaws so that he could make enough money to start over. 31) Buffalo Bill 1944 color 90m Joel McCreal Maureen O'Hara Colorful biography of Buffalo Bill. 32) Branded 1950 color 101m Alan Ladd. Ladd is a gunfighter who takes on someone else's identity to make money but then finds the real son and brings him back. Good Action. 33) Broken Arrow 1950 color 93m James Stewart Stewart plays the man who made peace between the Apaches and the US Govt. Movie was the idea that brought about the TV series Broken Arrow. 34) Bullwhip 1958 color 80m Guy Madison Rhonda Fleming. Guy is framed for a crime and his only way out is to marry Rhonda Fleming. 35) Butch & Sundance the Early Years 1979 color 110 William Katt. 36) Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid 1969 C112 Paul Newman Robert Redford. Interesting film. 37) Cahill US Marshal 1973 color 103m John Wayne. Well crafted tale of children who get into trouble and have to get out of it with the help of the father . Plenty of Action. 38) California 1946 color 97m Barbara Stanyyck Ray Milland. 39) Canyon Passage 1946 color 92m Dana Andrews Susan Hayward. The struggles in the Pacific Northwest. 40) Catlow 1971 Color 103m Yul Bryner, Richard Crenna This picture has everything in it action, adventure, romance and comedy. A must see. 41) Cattle Drive 1951 Color 77m Joel McCrea. 42) Cattle Empire 1958 color 83m Joel McCrea, Phyillis Coates 43) Cattle King 1963 color 88m Robert Taylor 44) The Charge at Feather River 1953 Color 96m Guy Madison, Frank Bovejoy, Vera Miles. A former army officer and an ex-scout is talked into leading an expedition into Indian country to recover two captive white women. Great film. 45) The Captives: The Longest Drive II 1976 color 98m Kirk Russell, Tim Matheson. Two brothers in search of their sister help the army to rescue a captured white woman. They latter help her to adjust to life in "civilization". 46) Charro 1969 color 98m Elvis Presley, Victor French, Ina Balin. Dispite comments by critics this is not a bad western. There is action and good characterizations, worth watching. 47) Conagher 1991 color 91m Sam Elliot. Good Picture 48) Chato's Land 1972 color 97m Charles Bronson, Jack Palance. Settlers pick on the wrong person when they pick on Charles Bronson, who plays an Indian with a family. 49) Cheyenne 1947 100m Dennis Morgan Jane Wyman, Janis Paige. Morgan is a gambler who is forced by the law to find out who is behind the stage robberies. Good picture. 50) Cheyanne Autumn 1964 coloc 145 Richard Widmark. This picture from director John Ford is a classic with a great cast. Loads of action make it a must see film. 51) Comanche 1956 color 87 Dana Andrews. Andrews plays an Indian scout out to try to bring peace between the Indians and th army. 52) Cattle Queen of Montana 1954 color 88m Barbara Stanwyck Ronald Reagan. Reagan is an undercover army officer sent to discover who is behind all of the trouble (cattle rustling, selling guns to Indians etc.). 53) The Comancheroes 1961 Color 107 John Wayne Ina Balin. Wayne is a Texas Ranger off to discover the Comancheroes base with his partner. Lots of action. 54) Chucka 1967 color 107m Rod Taylor John Mills. Great tale of what happens to a fort under seige due to the stupidity of its commanding officer (John Mills). 55) Column South 1953 color 85m Audie Murphy Murphy is a loyal cavalry officer stationed at a fort in New Mexico at the start of the Civil War. He has to face double dealing and an Indian uprising. 56) The Command 1954 color 88m Guy Madison, James Whitmore. An Army doctor leads a troop of cavalry in helping to protect a wagon train and an infantry unit. Great action. 57) Cowboy 1958 color 92m Glenn Ford, Jack Lemmon. Ford teaches a clerk (Lemmon) how to be a Cowboy during a cattle drive. 58) The Cowboys 1972 color 128m John Wayne 59) Cooper Canyon Ray Milland. Battle between defeated Confederates and crooks and loyalist in the post Civil War West. 60) Custer of the West 1968 color 1949 Robert Shaw plays Custer in this American-Spanish Made picture. Interesting, but too often shown in the cut version. 61) Bonanza: The Next Generation. Updated pilot for a return of the TV series. 62) Bonanza: The Return Second TV movie for a return of the series. 63) Bonanza: Under Attack 1995 Color 90m Second TV movie to be made based upon the second pilot 64) The Bravados Gregory Peck. Peck hunts down the outlaws who killed his wife only to discover in the end that it was a neighbor who committed the crime. Well done. 65) Brotherhood of the Gun Made for TV Western 66) Dakota 1945 82m John Wayne Vera Ralston, Ward Bond 67) Dakota Incident 1956 color 88m Linda Darnell, Dale Robinson, Ward Bond. Passengers on a stagecoach are attacked by Indians. 68) Dangerous Days of Kiowa Jones 1966 Color 83m Robert Horton, Diane Baker. A cowboy is given the responsibility by a dying sheriff to bring in two outlaws to be tried. Good. 69) Desperado 1987 Color 100m Alex Arthur First of a series of made for TV western movies. In this Alex becomes an outlaw because he tried to help people against a corrupt company. 70) Desperado: The Outlaw Wars. 71) Desperados Avalance at Devils Ridge 1988. 72) Desperado:Badland's Justice 1989 73) The Return of Desperado: Part of the above series. 74) Destry 1954 color 95m Audie Murphy Mari Blanchard, Lyle Berrger, Lori Nelson Wallace Ford. Remake of Destry Rides Again. Good. 75) Destry Rides Again 1939 94m James Stewart Marlena Dietrich. When the sheriff is killed, the broken down deputy sends for the son of the man that he once worked for to clean up the town. Only problem is that Destry doesn't believe in using guns. Well made. 76) A Distant Trumpet 1964 Color 117 Troy Donahue, Suzanne Pleshette, James Gregory. A fairly good cavalry picture from Warner Brothers featuring their contracted stars. I have always enjoyed watching this picture. 77) Dodge City 1939 Color 105m Errol Flynn Olivia De Haviland. Great Warner Brothers Western with plenty of Action. 78) Drums Across the River 1954 color 78m Audie Murphy. Illegal minning in Indian territory and Audies trying to stop it highlight this picture. 79) Drum Beat 1954 Color 111m Alan Ladd. Ladd is an Army officer charged by the President to make peace in Oregon with the Indians. Only problem is that one of the Indian leaders wants to kill and fight. 80) Duel at Diablo 1966 Color 103 James Gardner Bibi Anderson. Great Cavalry action flim. 81) Duel at Silver Creek 1952 Color 77m Audie Murphy. 82) Duel in the Sun 1948 Color 138 Gregory Peck. Big western. 83) Bandelero 1968 Color James Stewart, Dean Martin. Stewart saves his brother frem a hanging but the taking of the woman that the sheriff is in love with leads to a long chase. 84) Bugles in the Afternoon 1952 Color 85m Ray Milland, Forrest Tucker, George Reeves. Interesting cavalry picture which has the hero join the 7th Cavalry for the 1876 Campaign. 85) Bullet for a Badman 1964 Color 80 Audie Murphy, Darren McGavin. 86) Bullet is Waiting 1954 Color 82 Jean Simmons, Rory Calhoun 87) El Diablo 1990 Color 108m Anthony Edwards. Edwards, a teacher, heads out to rescue a girl who was kidnapped by outlaws and along the way he learns how to be a western hero. 88) El Dorado 1967 Color 126 John Wayne, Robert Mitchum great western with lots of gunfights. 89) Escape from Fort Bravo 1953 Color 98m William Holden, Eleanor Parker, John Forsythe. Holden, a cavalry officer must bring back in an escaped party of condederates. Things really get nasty when the group is ambushed by Apaches. Well acted. 90) The Far Country 1955 Color 97m James Stewart. Killings and other underhanded dealings in the Far northern gold country. 91) Fort Apache 1948 127m John Wayne,Henry Fonda staR in this John Ford directed cavalry picture which is loaded with action. 92) Fort Bowie Ben Johnson stars in this cavalry picture and it is a good action flick. 93) Fort Dobbs 1958 90 Clint Walker, Virgina Mayo, Brian Keith Warner Brothers western. Walker Brings Mayo and her son to the Fort. Unfortunatly, all of the soldiers have been killed so that when the townspeople arrive they fear being overrunned by the Indians. Walker is able to save the day by bringing in the repeating rifles that Keith was going to sell to the Indians. 94) Fort Massacre 1958 Color 80 Joel McCrea stars in this cavalry picture where he was to get himself and most of his command killed. 95) 40 Guns to Apache Pass 1956 Color 95 Audie Murphy. Murphy plays a cavalry officer who must bring in 40 new repeating rifles so as to give the troopers a chance to beat off an attack by the hostiles. 96) The Gambler 1980 color Kenny Rogers stars. 97) The Gambler II 1983 Kenny Rogers, Linda Evans. 98) The Gambler III 1987 190m color Kenny Rogers, Linda Gray. 99) The Gambler: The Luck of the Draw 1991 color 180 Kenny Bogers, Reba McIntyre, Clint Walker, Chuck Connors and lots of others. Interesting western with lots of action 100) Geronimo 1939 89m Preston Foster. 101) Geronimo 1962 Color 101m Chuck Connors. First big picture look that was in color. 102) Geronimo: An American Legend 1993 Color 115m Robert Duval. Big picture with lots of action developed by the director of Red Dawn. 103) Geronimo: The Movie Politically correct version 1993 Color 102m. 104) Garden of Evil 1954 lOOm Gary Cooper, Susan Hayward, Richard Widmark. Party of travelers goes to the aid of a woman to rescue he husband. Only Hayward and Cooper escape from the Indians. Good picture. 105) The Glory Guys 1965 Color 112m Tom Tryon, Andrew Duggan A fictionalized account of a Custer type of commander (Duggan) and the events leading up to and after the battle. Good battle. 106) Great Sioux Massacre 1965 Color 91m Joseph Cotton, Darren McGavin, Philip Carey. Another version of the Custer tale. 107) Great Sioux Uprising 1953 Color 80m Jeff Chandler 108) The Gunfight at Dodge City Joel McCrea. McCrea plays Bat Masterson. 109) Gunfight at the OK Corral 1957 Color 122m Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas. Story of how Earp and Holliday met and the battle at the OK Corral. 110) Hour of the Gun 1967 Color lOOm James Gardner, Jason Robards. Another version of the gunfight at the OK Corral. 111) Wyatt Earp 1994 Color 191m Kevin Costner, Gene Hackman. This version of Earp's life was very dark and quite unpopular at the box office. 112) ? 113) Tombstone 1993 Color 130m Kirk Russell, Val Kilmer. Well done tale. Kirk Russell was great as Wyatt and Kilmer did a great job as Doc. 114) The Gunfighters Made for Tv Movie Two brothers and their cousin get hounded by a corrupt man and finally end up as US Marshals for the Montana Territory. 115) Gun Fury 1953 Color 83m Rock Hudson Donna Reed, Philip Carey, Leo Gordon. Carey robs the stage and steal Hudson's girlfriend. When Gordon objects, Carey turns on him leaving him staked out. Gordon and Hudson join force to free Donna. well made Western. 116) Gun For a Coward 1957 Color 73m Fred MacMurray. 117) Face of a Fugitive 1959 Color 81M Fred MacMurray, MacMurray is an ecsaped fugitive who is trapped in a town where he helps the sheriff, in the process becoming a deputy. Great picture with plenty of action. 118) Gun Glory 1957 Color 89m Stewart Granger Rhonda Fleming. Granger is a retire gunman now rancher. He falls for Fleming, who the townspeople have turned against but is latter convinced by Fleming to help save the town. 119) Gunsight Ridge 1957 85m Joel McCrea, Mark Stevens,Slim Pickens. Townsfolk ban together to rid themselves of outlaws. 122) Gunsmoke 1953 Color 79m Audie Murphy Susan Cabot, Charles Drake. Murphy is a gunfighter who wishes to retire and who wins a ranch in a game of chance. Unfortunatly he must fight to keep the ranch using both guns and fist. 121) Gunsmoke: Return to Dodge 1987 Color 100m James Arness. This is the first of several Gunsmoke reunion movies featuring James Arness as the now retired U.S.Marshal. 122) Gunsmoke: 0ne Mans Justice James Arness 123) Gunsmoke: To The Last Man James Arness 1992 Color 92m 124) The Guns of Fort Petticoat 1957 Color 82m Audie Murphy. Murphy is a cavalry officer in Colorado during the Civil War. When the commanding officer attacks a peaceful tribe of Indians he starts an Indian War, which will leave the settlements of Northern Texas in danger. Murphy risks his life to warn the people and he has to take charge of a group of woman beating off an attack. Lots of action. 125) Guns of the Magnificent Seven 1969 color 95m George Kennedy, Monte Markham 3rd in the series. 126) The Gun That Won the West 1955 Color 71m Dennis Morgan. Action movie regarding the army's use of the Springfield Rifle. 127) Guns of Diablo Color 78m Charles Bronson Kirk Russel. Made with the same a TV series. 128) Gunpoint 1966 Color 86m Audie Murphy. 129) The Good Guys and the Bad Guys 1969 color 91m Robert Mitchum, George Kennedy. This western has some comedy and drama in it. The acting is quite good and its the old timers versus the young thugs. 130) The Hallelajah Trail 1965 Color 165M Burt Lancaster, Brian Keith. This is really one of the great western comedies ever made. The Battle of Whiskey Creek is really funny. 131) Hang 'em High 1968 Color 114m Clint Eastwood. This is Clint's first big starring American western. Lots of action as a man wrongfully hung seeks justice as a deputy US Marshal 132) The Hanging Tree 1959 Color 106m Gary Cooper,Maria Schell, George C Scott. This western shows what happens when there is no law. 133) Hangman's Knot 1952 Color 81m Randolph Scott, Donna Reed. A Reb detachment ambushes a Union gold shipment. Scott is horrorified to find out that all of the soldiers were killed for no reason as the war is over. 134) Hawmps 1976 color 113-126m James Hampton, Christopher Connelly, Slim Pickens. While this is a western comedy it is interesting because it is a look at the U.S. Army's Camel Corp Experiment ordered by Secretary of War Jefferson Davis. 135) High Noon 1952 85m Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly, Lloyd Bridges. A true western classic where one man has to fight an outlaw gang without any assistance from the towns citizens. 136) High Noon Part 2: The Return of Will Kane 1980 Color 100m Lee Majors. Lee Majors takes on the Gary Cooper role set years later. While not bad, not a great western. 137) High Plains Drifter 1973 color 105m Clint Eastwood 138) The Indian Fighter 1955 Color 88m Kirk Douglas, Walther Matthau. Douglas is a smart scout who knows whats going on. 139) Indian Uprising 1952 color 75 George Montgomery 140) Hondo 1953 Color 84m John Wayne, Ward Bond, James Arness A great action film. A must see western. 141) Hondo and the Apaches Pilot for TV series 142) Jubal 1956 color 101m Glenn Pord, Ernie Borgnine. Ford is a drifter who is befriended by Borgnine but another ranch hand plants a false idea in Borgnine's mind which results in his wanting to kill Ford. 143) Kansas Pacific 1953 color 73m Sterling Hayden, Eve Miller. Hayden is a Union officer who is given the mission to complete the Railroad so as to asure that supplies arrive from the west. 144) Kansas Raiders 1959 color 80m Audie Murphy, Gale Storm. Raiding in Kansas by irregulars/outlaws during the Civil War. 145) The Jayhawkers 1959 color 100m Jeff Chandler, Fess Parker. Battle between US Government and the leader of a group which wants to establish his own empire in the west. Good Picture. 146) The Kid from Texas 1950 color 78m Audie Murphy. Murphy as a young man who is on the wrong side of the law. 147) Jesse James 1939 color 105m Tyronne Power, Henry Fonda. The 20th Century Fox version of the life of Jesse James. 148) Lawman 1970 color 95m Burt Lancaster. Lancaster arrives in a town in search of criminals on the run and finds more trouble in the town that he must solve. 149) The Lone Ranger 1956 color 86 Clayton Moore, Jay Silverheels. Well crafted movie which tells the legend of the Lone Ranger. Moore is great and does a far better job in this movie than in the remake done 30 years latter. 150) The Ranger and the Lost City of Gold 1958 color 80m Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels. Another great Lone Ranger movie. 151) The Legend of Custer Pilot for the Custer TV series 152) Lone Star 1952 94m Clark Gable, Ava Gardner. MGM story of the struggle for Texas. Very Patriotic. 153) Last Outpost 1951 color 88m Ronald Reagan, Hugh Beaumont, Rhonda Fleming, Reagan is a Confederate Cavalry officer raiding Union shipments in the west. He tries to prevent an Indian war and rides to the rescue of his Union brother when the town is attacked by Apaches. 154) Little Big Horn 1951 86m Lloyd Bridges, John Ireland. Bridges leads a cavalry patrol which ties to reach Custer and warn him that he is riding into a trap. Unbelievable cavalry picture. 155) Last of the Comanches 1952 color 88m Broderick Crawford, Barbara Hale, Lloyd Bridges. Well crafted western of a mixed group of cavalry trropers and civilians which stand off a Comanche attack until help arrives, in the nick of time. Great. 156) The Long Ride 1980 color 100m David Keith, Robert Carradine, Keatch Brothers, Quaid Brothers. Story of the outlaw gans of the old west-Youngers, James Brothers etc. 157) How The West Was Won 1962 Color 165m All Star cast. Great MGM movie telling the story of the west as seen through the eyes of one family. 158) The Machans 1976 color 125m James Arness This is the pilot for the TV series How The West was Won. Good storyline. 159) MacKenna's Gold 1969 color 128m Gregory Peck,Omar Sharif, Julie Newmar. Outstanding cast. This western has everything, noble hero, female in need of rescue, ruthless outlaws, Indian attacks. 160) The Magnificent Seven 1960 color Yul Bryner,Charles Bronson, Perhaps one of the best westerns ever made, it is based upon a Japanese story. Well Worth Seeing is this movie. 161) The Magnificent Seven Ride 1972 Color 100m Lee Van Cleef, Stefanie Powers. Van Cleef takes on the Yul Bryner rolein this 4th installment. 162) The Maverick Queen 1955 color 90m Barhara Stanwyck, Barry Sullivan. Sullivan is an undercover investigator out to break up the outlaw gangs. Stanwyck is the badgirl who falls in love with our hero and who ends up saving his life at the cost of her own. 163) Major Dundee 1965 Color 124m Charlton Heston, Richard Harris. Set during the Civil War, this adventure takes place when Apache raiders attack a ranch and take two children prisoner. MaJor Dundee leads a pursuit party consisting of paroled confederates, union regulars and western volunteers. Loaded with action. 164) A Man Called Horse 1970 Color 114m Richard Harris 165) Return of a Man Called Horse 1976 Color 129m Richard Harris 166) Triumphs of A Man Called Horse 1983 83m Richard Harris Third installment of A Man Called Horse series of movies. This was a cheapie with less money spent on it than the others. 167) The Man From Galveston 1963 57m Jeffrey Hunter. Hunter plays a member of one of Texas's most famous family, now a lawyer out to defend his client in this Warner Brothers TV Pilot. 168) The Man from Colorado 1948 color 99m Glenn Ford, William Holden. Holden and Ford are war heroes and friends. When Ford starts to act strangly Holden investigates and finds that his friend is insane and out to distroy people. 169) The Man From Laramie 1955 Color 104m James Stewart When his brother is killed, Stewart takes his leave to investigate the death and the strange goings on. He finds that someone is selling guns to the Apaches and that that person was behind his brother's death. 170) The Man From Snowy River 1982 Color 115m Tom Burlinson, Sigrid Thornton, Kirk Douglas. This is an AUSTRALIAN WESTERN but it is one of the outstanding pictures ever made. Lots of action and adventure. 180) Return to Snowy River 1986 color 97m Tom Burlinson, Sigrid Thorton A follow up to the above picture and a well crafted Australian Western with lots of action. 181) Man Without a Star 1955 Color 89m Kirk Douglas, Jeannie Craine. Douglas goes to work for Craine but switches sides when he finds out how underhanded her methods are. 182) Montana 1950 color 76m Errol Flynn. A fairly good movie. 183) Nevada Smith 1966 Color 135m Steve McQueen. McQueen is a young man who spends his life tracking down the men responsible for the brutal death of his parents. 184) New Maverick 1978 Color 100m Charles Frank, Susan Blanchard, James Gardner, Jack Kelley. Pilot for the New Maverick TV series it is good and the key reason is the script and the acting by Kelley and Gardner. 185) New Mexico 1951 Color 76m Lew Ayres,Marilyn Maxwell, Raymond Burr. Peck volunteers to hold a key fort with a handful of expendable personnel. 191) The Oregon Trail 1976 color 110m Rod Taylor Pilot for a TV series. Odd western of the search for a samurai sword to be given to the President of the U.S. 200) Red River 1948 133m John Wayne Struggle between a man and his adopted son. Cattle drive and some gunfighting. 201) Red Tomahawk 1967 Color 82m Howard Keel, Joan Caulfield. Search by an army officer for some missing gatling guns after the Custer Massacre. 202) The Return of Frank James 1940 Color 92m Henry Fonda Takes up the story where the picture Jesse James left off and Fonda's efforts to bring out the truth. 203) Revolt at Fort Laramie 1957 Color 73m John Dehner. Cheap cavalry picture set at the start of the Civil War out west. 204) Ride The High Country 1962 Color 94m Joel McCrea and Randolph Scotts last picture. Good action. 205) Ride Beyond Vengance 1966 Color 100m Chuck Connors, Bill Bixby. Story of what happen to a Buffalo hunter and what he did when someone branded him. 206) Rio Bravo 1959 Color 141m John Wayne, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson, Ward Bond, John Russell Outstanding Tale of a Marshal standing up for justice. A classic western. 207) Rio Conchos 1964 Color 107m Richard Boone, Stuart Whitman Army unit, with Boone's help, seeks to find out who has been supplying the Indians with repeating rifles from Mexico. 208) Rio Grande 1950 105m John Wayne. John Ford's 2nd movie in his US Cavalry series. Lots of action. 209) Rio Lobo 1970 Color 114m John Wayne Wayne is after the man responsible for the death of a detachment of his men that were killed during a Civil War Robbery. 210) Rocky Mountain 1950 83m Errol Flynn, Slim Pickens, Flynn leads a group of Confederate cavalry charged with bringing the war to California. However, the men get involved in saving the life of some passengers on a stagecoach and give their lives to save others when they fight Indian raiders. 211) Rustler's Rhapsody 1985 Color 88m Tom Berringer, G W Bailey, Marilu Henner. This is a good picture which is not serious. It is a throw back to the western serials and marks the beginning of the return of westerns to the movies. 212) San Anrinio 1945 Color 111m Errol Flynn, Alexis Smith. Good western where there is plenty of action and its fairly easy to tell the good guys from the bad guys. 213) Santa Fe Trail 1940 110m Errol Flynn, Ronald Reagan. This is a Warner Brothers western which is loaded with action but unfortunatly historically untrue as Flynn and Reagan serve in the army together with a host of other famous Southern and Union officers. 214) Saskatchewan 1954 Color 87m Alan Ladd, Jay Silverheels Ladd is a Canadian Mountie who must help to prevent an Indian war from breaking out. He must prevent the Canadian tribes from joining the Sioux. Great picture. 215) The Savage 1952 Color 95M Charlton Heston. Heston is a white man who was raised by the Sioux. He re-enters the White world serving as a scout for the army to destroy the crows. He tries to bring peace between the two sides. Another good action film. 216) Scalplock 1966 Color 100m Dale Robinson Robinson is a gambler who wins a railroad in this pilot for the TV series. 217) The Searchers 1956 Color 119m John Wayne, Ward Bond Jeffery Hunter. This is a John Ford directed Western and it is loaded with action, adventure and emotion. Don't miss this one. 218) Sergeant Rutledge 1960 Color 118m Jeffery Hunter, Woody Strode. Another John Ford Western. Strode is Sgt. Rutledge, a buffalo soldiers being courtmartialed for the murder of his base CO and the officers daughter. Hunter is the commanding officer, who defends him and proves that Rutledge was not guilty. 219) Sergeants Three 1962 Color 112 Frank Sinatra, Joey Bishop. Western version of Gunga Din. 220) Siege at Red River 1954 Color 81m Van Johnson, Jo Anne Dru. Set during the Civil War, an Indian Attack must be beaten off. 221) Rawhide 1951 86m Tyronne Power, Susan Hayward. The assistant at the stagecoach station and a woman and her neice must pretend to be a family to outwit a gang of robbers who have seized control of the station in order to get the incomlng gold shipment. 222) Shane 1952 Color 117m Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur. Shane (Ladd) is a gunhand who takes a job with a farmer but who must use his gun to save the life of the farmer and his family. 223) The Sacketts 1979 Color 198m Sam Elliot, Tom Selleck, Glenn Ford. Great Western based upon the novel by Louis L'Amour. 224) The Shadow Riders 1982 Color 96m Tom Selleck, Sam Elliot. Another western written by Louis L'Amour turned into a movie. Two brothers return from the Civil War only to find out that members of their family have been kidnapped by scum and they are their only hope. 225) The Shootist 1976 Color 100m John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart John Wayne's last film. Dying of cancer hes character deceides to go out fighting rather than die in bed in pain. 226) Silverado 1985 Color 132m Kevin Klein, Scott Glenn. Truely a great great western. Lots of action as the goodguys take on the badguys that are so bad you love to hate them. 227) The Sons of Katie Elder 1965 Color 122m John Wayne, Dean Martin, Michael Anderson Jr. John Wayne is Katie Elders oldest son who has returned to see her buried proper. The brothers begin to investigate the death of their father and turn up some hidden secrets. Good action. 228) The Spoilers 1942 87m John Wayne, Randolph Scott, Marlene Dietrich. Wayne and others are being used by a crooked attorney (Scott) and his partner a crooked judge. The only way to achieve justice is with a six gun. This movie was remade in 1955 with Anne Baxter, Rory Calhound, Jeffery Chandler in color 84m. 229) Stagecoach 1939 96m John Wayne. John Wayne plays the Ringo Kid, a man on the run framed by the man who killed his father. This film made Wayne a star. It has been remade twice with the 1966 remake being the better of the two in my opinion. 230) Stars in the Crown 1950 Color 98m Joel McCrea, Ellen Dru 231) Sitting Bull 1954 Color 105m Dale Robinson Robinson is a cavalry officer who is captured by Sitting Bull and forced to help the Sioux escape entrapment. When he is courtmartialed Sitting Bull reappears with his warriors to tell the truth. 232) Son of the Morning Star 1991 Color 186m Made for TV movie based upon the book. Interesting, but not a great picture. 233) Dances With Wolves 1990 color 180m Kevin Costner as war-weary Union cavalry officer gets a transfer out west and proceeds to go native might be a good discription of this film. It is interesting and looks at things from the Sioux point of view at times. 234) The Tall Men 1955 Color 122m Clark Gable. Group of men on a cattle drive starting over. Action-rustlers, etc. 235) Texas 1941 91m William Holden, Glenn Ford. Two friends cross into Texas and fall for the same girl. Unfortunatly one has become an outlaw while the other is an honest rancher. 236) Texas Across the River 1966 Color 101m Dean Martin, Peter Graves. Martin is a man who is on the run he sneaks back and forth across the river to see his girl. When Texas joins the Union he is in big trouble. 237) The Texas Rangers 1936 95m Fred MacMurrary, Jack Oakie, Jean Parker,Lloyd Nolan. Three friends split up with Fred and Jack becoming Texas Rangers and Lloyd an outlaw. 238) The Texas Rangers 1951 color 68m George Montgomery, Gale Storm. Montgomery versus the evil outlaws. 239) Texas Rangers Ride Again 1940 68m Jack Oakie, Akim Taminoff. Sequel to The Texas Rangers 1936 but in a slightly more modern setting. Not as good as the first. 240) The Three Godfathers 1948 Color 105m John Wayne, Ward Bond. Three men rob a bank and flee into the desert where they discover a dying woman and her young child. The three become the baby's Godfather and struggle to get it back to the town that they just robbed. 242) A Ticket to Tomahawk 1950 Color 90m Anne Baxter, Dan Dailey. Dailey becomes a passenger on a train which is in serious trouble, the line hasn't been completed and the stage/freight line wants to make sure that it is not completed. Baxter is the gun shooting sheriff. 243) They Died with their Boots On 1941 colorized or Black and White Errol Flynn. This could be called the Warner Brothers version of the Custer Legend. The truth is bent but it is a good movie. 244) A Thunder of Drums 1961 Color 97m Richard Boone. Boone is the commander of an understrength Cavalry post. When ranchers are whipped out things get bad and when that is followed by the loss of a patrol things are worse. Boone manages to out think the Indians and deal them a defeat that they will not recover from. Well worth seeing. 245) Trooper Hook 1957 81m Joel McCrea, Barbara Standwyck. Standwyck is a whitewomen who has beeen held captive by the Apaches and Sergeant Hook the man who command the troopers that recued her. This is the story of what happen next. Good. 246) The Train Robbers 1972 color 92m John Wayne, Rod Taylor Well crafted western. 247) True Grit 1969 Color 128m, John Wayne. Wayne is a hard bitten US Marshal who is talked into going after some outlaws that killed her father. 248) Tumbleweed 1953 color 79m Audie Murphy, Lori Nelson. Audie tries to prove that he didn't desert a wagon train underattack. 249) Two Flags West 1950 92m Joseph Cotton,Linda Darnell, Jeff Chandler, Cornel Wilde. Good cast in a western with the Civil War being fought in the West. 250) Two Mules for Sister Sara 1970 Color 105 Clint Eastwood, Shirley Maclaine. Eastwood is a drifter who gets used by Maclaine, who is pretending to be a nun. Lots of action. 251) She Wore a Yellow Ribbon 1949 Color 103m John Wayne. In this final part of the John Ford U.S. Cavalry Trilogy, John Wayne plays a retiring Captain who is counting the days to retirement but who gets himself involved in a great deal of action. 252) Ulzana's Raid 1972 Color 103m Burt Lancaster, Bruce Davidson When Apache warriors break out from the reseveration and go on a killing spree, Lancaster is called in to scout for a US Cavalry pursuit force under an inexperienced officer, Good picture.
