Almost Intelligent

Well, I had a great response for the call for articles; unfortunately, it was no one who actually promised one. But, I think we got some great articles coming up.

For quite a while I had hopes that one or more manufacturers would make some colonial French forces. With Old Glory, Reviresco and Dixon figs there is some variety. Now with Castaway Arts and Askari producing figures a more well round campaign force can be fielded. Tiger Miniatures is also a very nice addition to colonial gaming with some very nice Spanish Colonial forces – SP. in sun helmets, slouch hats, civil guard and Cuban rebels; and US Marines in caps, as well as 9th/10th Cavalry, Rough Riders, major officers, pack animals and mountain guns for both sides. Soon to be release by Tiger will be Moro’s.

I love it, for a couple of years there was a major boom in colonial figures when Foundry released their Darkest Africa, followed slowly by Old Glory, then Copplestore, Castaway Arts and Cannon Fodder kept colonial figures moving, then we can add Brigade Games, London War Room and HLBS. Now two new companies (Tiger and Askari) are adding to the mix soon to be followed by Perry Miniatures. There are flags and buildings by TVAG, as well as Cotton Jim. With Larry Brom and others adding greatly to the TSATF rules system, Colonial Gaming must be in another (knock wood) golden era and I hope it keeps going. There are so many companies making colonial era stuff for us it’s getting harder and harder to keep up with it all. Sorry, if I missed some manufacturer.

With the 15mm buildings, figures, boats and rules I have for the Kris and the Flame I’ll have to start gaming this period. Now I’ll have to find a large enough magnifying glass to see to paint these minis.

The redoubtable back issues editor, Bob Burke, informs me that he has a web site that has an index to back issues of Savage and Soldier (and I assume the Heliograph) as well as how to order back issues www.geocities.com/burker94509
