Publications, Figures, and Other Products of Interest

1. Cannon Fodder Miniatures, PO Box 786, Bendigo, Victoria, 3550 Australia, http//canfodmins.com Greg has several new figures for his Texas War of Independence, gunners and a Texas command group for San Jacinto. I have seen pictures and they look very nice, I could have used them in my Alamo diorama for the Saluda County (SC) Historical Society.

2. Peter Pig, Martin Goddard, 34-36 Knightsdale Road, Weymouth, Dorset, DT4 0HS, UK, www.peterpig.demon.co.uk has a resin cast side-wheeler (15mm scale), the Albion, with some associated bits (12” by 5”) for £45 or $83.46.

3. Tiger Miniatures, sorry no web site, has new Spanish-American War figures (28mm), with Moros coming soon. WOW!!!!! See the review and the ad.

4. Askari Miniatures, www.askari-minis.com, (strictly internet ordering). Have new French Army in Africa figures (28mm) from the photos they are nice looking figures with great detail. Comes in packs of 20 figures with 1 officer or NCO, 1 musician and 18 privates (just right for TSATF). Available now in a sample pack of four figs, then

5. HELP, has anyone read Lester Grau’s books The Bear Went over the Mountain: Soviet Combat Tactics in Afghanistan or Afghan Guerilla Warfare Mujahideen Tactics. If you have please let me/us know what you thought of them in regard to NWF fighting.

6. Parkfield Miniatures, 21 Lincoln Park, Amerham, Bucks. HP7 9EZ, UK. Have a line of Sepoy figures for Clive in India period as well as the SYW French and Brits to go with them. The figs are true 25mm (foot to eye). The figures seem very nice.

7. Dixon, French Marines from Dixon’s Dahomey range. See the review.

9. Osprey Publishing, has a new Man-at-Arms (#421) coming out in January The Sikh Army, 1799-1849 by Ian Heath with illustrations by Michael Perry.

10. Wargames Illustrated, issue 207. Well this issue is full of colonial era stuff.
From the ads: Perry Miniatures line of “The Crusades, The Muslim Armies” is MA29 Muslim Civilians the picture here showsan emir or sultan with servants, very nice. Unfortunately, there were no photos on their web site yet for this. However, I did look at other figures in this line and see them as quite acceptable for inclusion in our Arab armies. Copplestone’s ad for the Back of Beyond listed with photos some of his figs. Sloppy Jalopy had a photo of a Crosly Custom (car) for the late 20s. Very nice. Paper Street Soap Company has 1/48 scale figures of gunfighters and a few Indians.
Tim Greene’s article “How to run a Comanche (or a Crow, Arapaho, etc) War Party in’War on the Plains’” this is a supplementary guide to “A Good Day to Die”. John Stallard “Rorke’s Drift 1879” Begins with the film to putting together the table, scenery, characters and game dynamics. Nice photos and an interesting approach to the game. Which is not surprising since Stallard work for Games Workshop and this is similar to their approach.
Howard Whitehouse “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” The conclusion to 206's article. This includes brief bios of 7 hunters, info on guns, and the very useful ‘How to act like a wild animal’. Chris Thompson “Gamers Guild Goes to the Back of Beyond (aka Redhill) Bolsheviks vs Chinese Warlord based on Contemptible Little Armies.
