The London War Room

Indo-China Armies of Viet Nam
Figure Review

by Richard Brooks

London War Room, 41 Beverly Hills Loop, Petal MS, 39465, sent a box load of their Off the Beaten Path figures for review.

I received five bags (total of 17 bags in the range) of their Indo-China Armies of Viet Nam (28mm) from a total current selection of 17. Most of the bags hold 10 figures ($15) except for the officers/standard bearers/gong beaters, which come singly ($1.70). These figures will make excellent opponents for the French. Bags (pictured next page) received include:

IC1 Linh two-handed swordsmen, 4 different poses (26-28mm sole to eyes), tassels on their swords, scabbards on their backs, straw hat, jacket, sash, and pants. Simple poses, some flash.

IC2 Linh spearmen charging/at the ready, (25-28mm sole to eyes), 5 figs charging, one pose, calf length pants, jacket, sword in scabbard at waist, straw hat, and sash. Five figs at the ready, one pose, long pants jacket, sword in scabbard on back, straw hat with tassel, and sash. Some flash, simple pose.

IC3 Linh, Matchlock men firing line (26-27mm sole to eyes), 5 loading (2 with sword) and 5 firing (1 with sword), long pants, straw hat some with tassel, powder bag, cartridge box, not western musket stock curved and short, sash and jacket. Some flash.

IC11 Chinese Flag Troops attacking with pole arms, swords and spears (25-27mm sole to eyes), 8 poses, 4 different head gear, 7 different weapons, 8 advancing, 2 marching, short and long pants, jackets and shirts, sash, wide and narrow sleeves. Some flash, great variety.

IC17 Tirailleurs Cochinchinois Advancing, in uniform (25-26.5mm sole to eyes), French sailor cap, 2 poses high port arms, and rifle at the hip, bolt action rifle. Some flash.

While these are not the most dynamic poses I’ve seen for any troops, they ARE what you want for gaming. Flash is present but certainly not as bad as some manufacturers are, so it’s not really a problem, you have to clean up all figures anyway. I like these figures and I can certainly see myself buying bags to fill out units, to give my FFL somewhere else to fight than North Africa.

These figures will fit in with FFL figs from Castaway Arts, Dixon, Foundry, Historifigs, HLBS, and Old Glory. I think it might be a stretch to make these, especially IC17, work with Redoubt FFL figs. I could be wrong they might look OK to you but the Redoubt are giants next to these.

I’ll just fight my Castaway Arts FFL with these figs. Vince and Gerry must be in league to produce figs that we all need to buy. Oh don’t give me that stuff, we all have to have painted, and more importantly unpainted lead stashed away for some future gaming possibilities.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
