1. Ainsty www.ainsty.co.uk has several items that might be worth looking at, in particular they have several small boats that hold 3-5 25mm figures, depending on basing. The most interesting is a Sampan, with mast for $7.50. They have docks and jetties in their Trader line that look very interesting. 2. Castaway Arts , See the review of their mounted Tuareg and Berbers (horse and camel) figures. Gerry has also announced the availability of Tuareg and Berber foot figures (reviewed next Issue) and will be including a dismounted Chasseur d'Afrique in his next mould-making batch. Will this be all for Castaway Arts FFL line? “Not quite the end”, Gerry writes that he “still has to make some FFL command, machine gun and crew, some mounted types, locally raised troops, etc. etc.” 3. Solo Wargamer , No colonial articles but several worth reading include Solo Random Movement System by Ian Barstow, An Introduction to Solo Wargaming by Ian McDowall, Scribble Scribble Scribble John Crawford (automatic system for deploying and ordering solo enemies, and Games Workshops Lord of the Rings Skirmish Games interesting article about this simple set of rules. 4. Wargames Illustrated , I renewed my sub but have not seen an issue for 7 months. 5. Stronghold Miniatures , 144 Lochbridge Road, North Berwick, East Lothian, EH39 4DR United Kingdom, has a Sampan, as well as other small boats, that might also be useful in 25mm. 6. Victorian Military Society , PO Box 5837, Newbury, RG14 7FJ, United Kingdom. Soldiers of the Queen issue 115 This was a very interesting issue to read. All the articles stood out while two articles dealt with hunting and war, one with naval brigades and the rest well worth reading. Soldiers Small Book, issue 60, this is the newsletter for the society and contains meeting news and other tidbits. Dayton Painting Consortium, LTD . PO Box 24185, Huber Heights, OH 45424, 937-667-1037. Dayton Painting Consortium has the old RSM (Rusty Scabbard Miniatures) molds, which includes 20mm Colonials. The range includes British, Zulu, Boer and Pathans.Quite a few of the Pathans could be used for Sudan actions but they have no fuzzy wuzzies. The figs can be bought either individually .35 each, horses .50, or in bags of 24 infantry 8.40; 48 infantry 16.80; 12 riders and horse 10.20; 4 guns and 16 gunners 11.60; limbers - 8 horse, 2 riders, 2 limbers 11.40. There are also command bags. These are very nice looking figures, well detailed, and this line has by far the best kneeling figures I have ever seen! Highly Recommended! 8. Musket Miniatures , The Dayton Painting Consortium also carries Musket Miniatures and they had bags of their Rorke’s Drift buildings in 15mm on sale. I didn’t buy any but I took a close look and these buildings a really great. They are resin with removable roofs, the buildings come separately, as a set and as a set with figures. I did not see the figures but the buildings are worth it. 9. Osprey Military Journal Supplement , Wargaming and Modeling Issue 1, 2002, I just ran across this while at Borderlands in Greenville, SC. This contains some very nice photos and illustrations from 1860-1899. This is a very nice introduction to gaming for use in the classroom or to introduce folks to gaming. 10. Peter Pig has come out with 15mm Sudan figures, 12 pack for 3.80, plus rules Patrols in the Sudan 17.99. 11. MWAN , Issue 127, Hal’s last issue as editor. Don Perrin of Noble Miniatures is taking over with issue 128. Unfortunately, there was nothing colonial but as always a great read. 12. Tumbling Dice , 96 Sandfield Road, Arnold, Notts. NG5 6QJ, UK. Have some mounted irregular Arabs (from their WWI Arab Revolt figs) in the Old Contemptible 20mm line OC Cav 73 and OC Cam 78 horse and camel mounted. Might be worth a look. London War Room Have several new 25mm guns available, for naval ships on mounts - a Lewis gun, 1 pounder, 3 pounder with shield and a large searchlight; and for land actions a 2 pounder Hotchkiss and a 20 LB Armstrong. Very nice looking gun models. They also have some 25mm Indian dressed for most periods, irregulars, but without guns just swords and spears with shields. The figures look very good. 14.
