The Kris and The Flame

TSATF Variant

by Lori Brom

The Kris and The Flame, by Chris Ferree, is a variant for TSATF/20 that recreates the exciting Land and Sea Battles between the Trading Powers of the World and the Pirates of the South Seas.

From the Introduction:

"Through the mid part of the 19th century, the area between Singapore and Canton was a virtual "No-Man's Land" for free trade. In the South China Sea, pirates could come from any direction.  They came from China, the Philippines and Borneo, ready to swoop in and devour any unsuspecting or disabled merchantman.  The task of protecting European interests in the area fell to men like Capt. Henry Keppel of H.M.S. Dido, Capt. Rodney Mundy of H.M.S. Iris, and the most famous of all, the "White Rajah of Sarawak", James Brooke. It was their job to penetrate the dark jungle rivers and the uncharted reefs and bays to strike against the headhunting Dyak, the battle-crazed Illunan and the calculating Chinaman."

In addition to land warfare, rules have been added to conduct shipboard encounters as well. The dimensions for ships given in the rules are for 15mm figures and models but by using the enclosed Multiple Scale Ruler Table, you can easily adapt TKATF for play in 6mm, 10mm, 20mm and 25/28mm.

As a special Pre-Historicon Offer, if you order TKATF between June 25 and July 22, 2003, you will receive a 10% discount off the regular price of $14.00.  And look for the new 15mm figures by Chris Ferree and available soon from The London War Room, and ships from The Virtual Armchair General to support this rousing new variant.
