Copplestone Castings
Bolshevik Cavalry

Wargames Figure Review

by Jeff Johnson

BU9 Bolshevik Cavalry

The “Back of Beyond” series has finally expanded enough to include the cavalry units that served in Central Asia through the 1920’s.

The first unit is a pack of four riders and four horses for the Red Army. The riders are 28mm from boot to eye. The four Bolshevik cavalrymen are in different action poses, all with sword in hand. Three are in Russian soft caps and one in a tall fur hat.

The sword has a full guard, so it may be the 1881 “dragoon” model. (In future releases, officers and Cossacks may be expected to carry the traditional shaska, which had no guard to protect the hand.)

The horses are large, sturdy animals cast with saddles and gear in place. Of the four horses in the set, there were three variations in equipment and leg position, so a unit will have sufficient variety to appear realistic. Highly recommended.

More Bolshevik cavalry as well as Chinese cavalry are expected to be offered in the near future.
