Pulp Figures

28mm German Seebattalion 1900

by Edward Harvey

Pulp Figures is presently creating several figure lines of interest to the colonial gamer including one of the German Seebattalion (Marines) circa 1900. Four packs have been released thus far and include a pack of officers, a pack of NCOs, and packs featuring Marines advancing and firing respectively. The first two packs contain 5 figures a piece in assorted poses while the latter two contain 8 figures in identical poses. Each pack sells for 12 U.S. dollars.

The figure's sculptor, Bob Murch, anticipates three additional packs will be completed by the summer and these will feature Marines in assorted poses and a maxim machine gun. The figures are dressed in the Seebataillon's khaki summer uniform and are ideal for use in Boxer Rebellion scenarios (the German navy maintained three battalions of marines to protect its foreign bases and the 3rd battalion stationed at Tsingtao fought alongside the Allies during the Rebellion). I recently received samples of the Marines firing and advancing and was favorably impressed with both. They stand 27mm from base to eye and in both height and bulk appear perfectly compatible with Foundry figures.

Flash is nonexistent and they bear minimal mould lines. The level of detail is excellent and even includes the small national cockade found below the helmet's badge. Anatomically they appear correct and their poses are natural though I would describe the "advancing" figure as being "on guard." Pulp Figures website features photos of the figures and can be visited at www.pulpfigures.com/main.php

If you buy five packs then the sixth is free and for every four additional packs purchased a fifth is free. Postage is also free if eight or more packs are purchased. Incidentally, if storming the Taku forts with sailors and marines from seven nations isn't sufficiently exotic for you, then Bob also sculpts Martian infantry and cavalry for RAFM's Space 1889 series!"
