review by Richard Brooks

Copplestone Castings,PO Box 9298, Birmingham, B14 7PN UK www.gisby.org/copplestone.htm Packs of 5 figures for £5.50.

These 28mm (measured from the foot to the eyes) figures are great and fit with in a unit with any other 28/30mm well proportioned figs, except for Ultimate 28 and 30mm as they are not properly proportioned (the heads and helmets are too small). You can certainly put them on the same table but not unit. All these figures show some very nice animation, particularly facial expression and nice height variety. There are some fiddly mold bits to cut off but no big deal.

AF1 Azande Musketmen 1 measure 28-28.5mm, in loin cloth, four wearing woven caps and one with braided hair, each carrying either a powder horn or bottle, three are at the ready, one firing a carbine (almost taking aim), and one squatting waving forward men behind with hand carrying shotgun. Nice animation, great facial expressions.

AF2 Azande Musketmen 2 measure 27.5-29mm, three with braided hair, two woven caps, three at the ready, one marching, one squatting, two with powder bottles, one with horn, and two with cartridge boxes. Again nice animation, great facial expression, also very nice height variation.

AF3 British Naval Officers 27.5-30mmyoung ensign with pistol is the shortest, one with sun helmet firing pistol, another pointing, one with pistol up. Very useful for landing parties, nice poses, I like the height variety; I have already painted mine and have them ready for the table. This is unheard of for me to paint new figures so fast, I love these guys.

AF4 British Sailors in Sennet Hats 28.5-30mm at the ready, brims pushed up rather than down, as other manufacturers are, very nice, makes for nice variety; three have beards, cutlasses and cartridge boxes. Again, these guys are painted and ready to go I can’t wait for the next set of sailors (that sounds pretty weird so I mean the figures, the next set of figures, oh he*& you know what I mean).

AF5 Ngoni Warriors in feathered headdresses 1, 28-30.5mm advancing, comes with five varied shields and spears. Very nice variety of costume and expression as well as animation.

AF6 Ngoni Warriors in feathered headdresses 2, 28-29mm, advancing, two are up on their toes and are really imposing with their eyes at 32mm against say the short (27.5mm) ensign, but they don’t look out of place, comes with five varied shields and spears. Great figures!

AF7 Married Ngoni Warriors with head-ring, 28-29mm, advancing, comes with five varied shields and spears, again one on his toes is really imposing.

AF8 Young Ngoni warriors, 28-29mm, advancing, comes with five varied shields and spears, since these are young warriors those on their toes are not quite as imposing. Tribal Elder, limited edition, 30.5mm, came with two skulls very nice looks like a Masai based on photos I’ve seen, I guess it depends on how you paint him. Nicely sculpted, love the delicate expanded ear lobes.
