I went to the Old Glory web site (see above) and checked out their colonial line. Makes me want to cry, too many figures not enough money, Oh Well. Anyhow the web site is nicely arranged and easy to navigate. You can see exactly what you are buying. Compared with some sites that just list their figures with prices and no idea of what they look like. Makes me wonder if they are ashamed of their figures. On the other hand photos take up a lot of space and space is expensive on the web. Anyway the figures I bought are much better designed that other OG figs I got five or more years ago. The sculpting quality is getting closer to Foundry. I purchased five packs to fill in some blanks in my forces. I will not show everything here but some bits and pieces from the sets to give you an idea of what they are like. I wanted to add some depth to a few scenarios I was thinking about so I got the Famous Newspaper Reporters bag from the Sp-Am War, SAW-30 $10. The set includes: Crane seated on the ground leaning on a stump writing; Remington sitting on a barrel painting with easel; Davis standing with cigar, haversack and cane; Hearst kerchief on head, with haversack and pointing; a reporter writing; and a photographer with camera. These are well modeled in interesting positions that give a nice variety to a scenario. I also bought the British Heliograph Party, well of course, from the Boer War, CBB-17 $10. This contains two men with telescope, two kneeling (would be much better standing), two kneeling and writing with pistols and two heliographs. The men have haversacks, cartridge boxes, canteen, puttees and sun helmet. Again very nicely detailed. Then to really fill a hole in my troops I purchased: Parker’s Gatling Guns with Crew, SAW-12 $10. This set includes two guns, Parker, and four crew (two crankers and two loaders). Parker is in shirt sleeves rolled up, giving the fire order wearing a pistol and holding field glasses. US Volunteers with command, SAW-4 $27. The set includes three officers (two leading troops, one firing pistol), two standard bearers, three buglers, and 25 other ranks. The men carry a rolled blanket over the shoulder, canteen, haversack with cup, bayonet, cartridge belt, wearing gators, and in shirtsleeves. US Marines Skirmishing with command, CBP-01 $27. This bag includes two officers one with drawn pistol, two buglers, five firing, and 22 advancing. The men are wearing cartridge belts, canteen, haversack, and knife or short bayonet. Along with some US Sailors I already have this gives me a very nice landing party of three battalions. Command might be a problem, but I think I will get the Allied Command Group from the Boxer Rebellion to handle that, as it will also give other high command figures. Overall, while Old Glory is not the foundation of my figures collection they have filled a niche that allows me to game on a broader perspective, which I like. As to the figures, well the detail isn’t bad and the animation is pretty good. While at times 30 figures per bag is a bit much when I don’t need that many, here I did and each bag makes a nice either battalion or large company. Thirty figures per bag helps bring the price down to less than a dollar each. Quite nice compared to other manufacturers.
