Cold Wars 2001

Convention Report

by Richard Brooks

Even though I did not go this year to Cold Wars the number of colonial games seems down a bit, while WWI seems to be catching up in popularity with the ACW. There were 14 colonial games listed in the preliminary program, I wonder why they bothered to send out since I got it the weekend before Cold Wars. Anyway, of the 14 listed games one was a fleet action using Age of Iron; four were various published rules; one set of home rules; five were TSATF or The Sword in Africa; and three were for the introduction of a new set of rules called Gaslight for Victorian Sci Fi. These rules don't appear to be for your typical colonial wargame scenario. But, could be -- scenario titles include Pershing and the Moros, Evil Island of Dr. Dean (Moreau), and Darkest Africa (lost cities and gold mines).

There were three Zulu War scenarios and two of them were Rorke's Drift, two Boxer Rebellions, three Darkest Africas, and then Ethiopia, the Sudan and the NWF for one each.
