It will include USN personnel, USMC, Chinese Warlord troops and bandits. I am currently working on weapons for the figures [03 Springfield rifle, BAR and 1897 Trenchgun are the first]. This is all still in the embryonic phase but work is under way. e. 15mm Austro Prussian War [1866]. Coming along nicely. I've finished several different poses of 1866 period Austrian Infantry and I have just begun the first cavalry figure. I am not going to release these for sale until I have both infantry and cavalry ready. Gunners will also be added and I will make artillery guns eventually. You can see the latest figures at CFMs website: http://www.members.xoom.com/canfodmins/canfodmins/home.htm Check out the free flags pages, These are really fine flags made just for 28mm figures. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! 8. Lone Warrior, US- 1707 Ridge Road, Leavenworth, KS 66048. LW131, July-September. There is one colonial article by BADDAWG6@webtv.net and Ron is asking for assistance for an upcoming Victorian Science Fiction Elmundomythico campaign. Ron is using ideas developed by Tony Bath system. He is asking for anyone who has created an alternative Victorian campaign to contact him for an exchange of ideas. Actually I'd like to hear more about this RON! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! 9. Victorian Military Society, Dan Allen, 20 Priory Road, Newbury, Berkshire, RG14 7QN Great Britain. If you don't belong to the Victorian Military Society you should, and tell them the Heliograph sent you. Soldiers of the Queen, issue 101, June 2000. There are three good articles in this issue and one great article "The Niger-Sudan Expedition, 1896-97." The story of the expedition's 30 British NCOs, 513 African soldiers (organised into 7 companies with a maxim gun attached to each), 40 horses, one 12pdr and one 9 pdr whitworth BL guns and five 7 pdr guns, served by three RA officers and 59 Hausa gunners, and 900 carriers. This a great story well worth a try on the table. And catch the Heliograph ad on the last page. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!! 10. The Melik Society, 202 Lambeth Road, London SE1 7JW, Great Britain. The purpose of the Melik Society is to advance public awareness of Britiah and Sudanese history, particularly the development of river gunboats and the achievements of those involved in the military campaigns between 1883 and 1899. One of the immediate objectives is to facilitate the preservation and restoration of the remaining gunboats Melik and Bordein so that they can be exhibited, maintained and demonstrated to the general public. Every dollar or pound helps. Highly recommended charity!!!! 11. Wargames Illustrated, 18 Lovers Lane, Newark, Notts. NG24 1HZ Great Britain. Issue 155, August. The Foundry ad indicates some new Old West figures coming out soon. They also have several new deals for WWII and Dad's Army-great figures, I must order these deals. This issue, while not necessarily colonial, has an article by A. Michael Sayce entitled "The Affair at Nsnakang 6 September 1914." It tells of the German attack of 500 men against the British 220 defenders, quite interesting and playable with various rules. Issue 156 nothing colonial this issue, good read though. Old Glory finally has a color, or any ad showing their colonial models. The Indian Mountain Gunners and mules look really nice. Unfortunately, there are no colonial articles this issue, although there are some very readable articles. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! 12. Osprey, Osprey Direct, P.O. Regiment, Nexus House, Azalea Dr., Swanley, Kent BR8 8HU. Regiment issue 49, part 2 of "The Queen's Lancashire Regiment 1881-2000. I love that Ferret Armour Car. There are loads of great colonial era black and white photos on station as well as in barracks. Zululand to the relief of Ladysmith (color drawing) to India 1910 to the Northwest Frontier 1919-1939. There are so many great photos WOW. Highly Recommended. See Stuart Asquith's article on how he chooses photographs for each issue. Another great effort by Stuart Asquith. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 21. And That's the Way it Was, 213 3rd St. NE, Hickory, NC 28601-5124 As I said last issue this is where to get your copy of The Sword and the Flame, this is a great set of rules and at 52 pages it is packed with great information and packaged very nicely. See the new reviews. 22. Regimental Orders, Victorian Tymes, 22 Kennard Road, New Milton, Hants, BH25 5JU, UK £ 4 or $7 for a year. If you are interested in uniforms and equipment this is for you. High Recommended! 23. Military Illustrated, 45 Willowhayne Ave. East Preston, West Sussex, BN16 1PL UK £ 35. Issue 145. I have commented before on the subscription price for this magazine, at how ridiculous it is at $100, while at a newstand price of $4.95 times 12 is less than $60 why buy a subscription. In the UK it is worth it at £ 35. Ian Knight provides an article entitled "Zulu Warrior" about Zibhebhu kaMaphitha, who according to Ian depended upon good intelligence and masterful use of terrain to become a great commander. This is a good read with some great photos. Issue 146 with another article by Ian Knight 'We are going to die today' is about the 1896 campaign against the Asante to finally control them. The text is excellent with great photos and drawings. The photo of the Asante gunman is the best of a great lot. 24. Miniature Wargames Issue 206. For those interested in the Zulu War there is another go at it by Bill Cainan entitled "Wargaming Rorke's Drift". There are some iteresting ideas that could change the outcome, but I doubt it. Well starting with issue 207 we are honored to have Stuart Asquith pick up the intelligence on Miniature Wargames, it's too bad that the first several issues, as usual, have nothing colonial. HERE'S Stuart: Stuart Asquith reporting: No 207 August 2000 No colonial content No 208 September 2000 No colonial content - by stretching the imagination, one could perhaps include The Battle of Wandewash 1760 (?) In MW 208 there is a black and white (poor quality) photo of a 25mm WW1 Colonial East Africa range by Falcon Figures. No details given (what's the point of showing them if you don't supply info...). But that's it! 24. Helion & Company Duncan Rogers Helion & Company http://www.helion.co.uk The Best Military Books Website in the Business! If you wish to receive email newsletters from Helion & Company please send an email with the word "subscribe" as the subject. I bought the books I review this issue from them, very good service!!! 25. The Courier, issue 76 The colonial rules"With MacDuff" from issues 72 & 73 have a page of errata (five questions with answers). 26. The Journal of America's Military Past volume 26, No.3 Winter 2000. Camp, 518 W. Why Worry Lane, Phoenix, Ariz. 85021. This entire issue is devoted to the Spanish-American War: "Notes on the Life of the "Common Soldier" in the Spanish-American War," "Spanish-American War Camps 1898-99," "The Army's Medical Department in the Spanish-American War," and "The View from Washington Through the Eyes of Adjudent General: Henry C. Corbin." The majority of the issue concerns the war camps and thier locations about the US. Beyond that there are a few gems worth using for rules modifications. 27. Naval and Military Press , Unit 10 Ridgewood Industrial Park, Uckfield, East Sussex TN22 5QE Great Britain. www.naval-military-press.co.uk This newspaper catalog came with SOTQ. The prices on some of these books are really low and shipping amazingingly low from England to the US $5.00 per order! Some of the titles and prices in dollars:
