Marching to the Drums:
From the Kabul Massacre
to the Siege of Mafikeng

Book Review

Ian Knight

Greenhill/Stackpole Books, 1999.

Sorry I don't remember what I paid for this, as I got it for joining the Military History Bookclub. This is another masterpiece by Knight, and before some nay sayers begin this is not about the Zulu War, Ian does have other interests. This book contains 30 first person accounts of about 20 different wars or actions each introduced by Ian. Not only are the introductions good but the accounts are outstanding. All are well chosen from various contemporary magazines and publications. Yes, there are three from the Zulu War (Rorke's Drift, Ulundi, and Majuba Hill), one an interview with Private Henry Hook. available from Ian through his web site: www.kwazulu.co.uk Highly Recommended
