Although no one mentioned it in their letters, there were two mistakes in the last issue I should clear up. First the number on the cover was wrong it should have been 112, and the book review attributed to Gerry Webb on page 21 was atcually written by John Baxter. Very sorry about that.

There are tons of things to review, another smashing rules variant for TSATF by Blake Walker.

German Colonial Troops

The German Colonial African booklet is shaping up very nicely and will be available for purchase after the next issue. It contains articles printed here in the last year or so, plus more uniform drawings and descriptions by Mark Keigwin, period maps, contemporary photos of German/African troops, Illustrations of tribes, some OBs, and hopefully a couple of color uniform plates. In total I think the booklet will run to about 25 to 30 pages. More next issue.

Darkest Africa Rules

I hame to the conclusion that there are at least three sets of rules available that admirably work well. These are in no particular order, I find that all three work very well.

Dark Continent: Central African Colonial Wargaming 1860-1918, a TSATF variant by Blake Walker that appeared in issue 110.The Rules With No Name, with Apache or Plains Indian variants by Bryan Ansell available in MWAN 82 and the Mystic Warrior Supplement in MWAN 87. Chris Peers and Mark Copplestone's In Darkest Africa Skirmish and Campaign Rules in Wargames Illustrated 131 and 132.There may be other rules that you think are top notch for this and I would very much like to hear from you about those rules.

Other News

I have had an interesting email exchange with Uniformology, see Dispatches, about their German Colonial Uniform booklet.I keep hearing about Old Glory's Colonial Figureline, but seen little of them. It also seems that Essex and Redoubt have quit adding colonial figures. The only new figures in 25mm are coming from The Foundry, Castaway Arts and Cannon Fodder Miniatures (see the reviews).
