Illustrations of Three
French Colonial Ships

by Richard Brooks

Top Left: French troop ship departing Funchal, Maderia Islands, on the return trip following war in Dahomey.

Top Right: 'Le Pont du Corail' is the French caption of this illustration of a mixed crew in action during the Dahomey war. Very nice details for constructing your own craft.

Bottom: 'La Topaze et l'Emeraude appuyaient l'operation.' is the French caption of this illustration of two identical(?) propeller driven river boats. Note each boat has two guns on the top deck served by what appears to be both naval and infantry men. The lower deck has some sort of protection amidships above the rail. It could be anything from iron plate to canvas. The lower deck is packed with soldiers. It appears as though La Topaze has a canvas covering over the upper deck.
