For those of you with email, I have a new address, please send your comments, good ones of course, to me. This issue is out early to allow some information to come your way, hoping it's not too late. First, as you see with the enclosed flyer this issue, even if it is numbered 101 it really is 100 [confused yet?] to coinside with the centenary of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. Secondly, also enclosed is an announcement and submission form for a new fall convention. Dan Allen sent me leaflets for you and a flyer describing the location of the Diamond Jubilee celebration hosted by the Victorian Military Society held during this years Victorian Military Fair. The Historic Dockyard in Chatham, Kent about one hour from London, looks to be quite an interesting venue for the celebration. The dockyard is on an 80 acre historic site from the age of sail. Seven museum galleries tell the story of the dockyard and shipbuilding for the Royal Navy, Englands finest naval muzzle-loading ordnance gallery among many more. The info is somewhat late since the fair starts on the 28th but the info is worth having if you are so inclined to fly off in an instant (see enclosed flyer). Fall In Convention "Fall In!" is the newest HMGS-East convention, not another convention you say! well, you're probably right. BUT, this one is being run by Helio subscriber and infamous, or is that famous colonial gamer Bob Giglio. This year's theme, and possibly into the future, is colonial games. This years guest is Ian Knight. I can tell you from his email Ian is looking forward to this convention. So get out your Zulus or Arabs or Fuzzys and submit a game or just go and play (see enclosed flyer). As a further incentive the convention is being held in Gettysburg, PA. If you haven't been there and walked to battlefield go and do it. It will give you a new appreciation for the period. There were at least two mistakes last issue.
Ian Knight and Bryan Ansell both tell me that Wargames Illustrated is still very much in print that the problem is with US distributors see their letters. Heliograph SubscriptionThe Heliograph costs $12 a year--and has been coming out regularly. It has reached 100 issues, quite an accomplishment, and is an invaluable guide to colonial-era books, games, and other products, especially since Savage and Soldier is apparently permanently on hold. Subscriptions are the lifeblood of publications. If you regularly read and enjoy a particular magazine on MagWeb, such as the heliograph, please support the publisher by renewing or taking out a print subscription. Thank you. --RL IT'S THAT TIME OF THE SUBSCRIPTION YEAR AGAIN FOR MOST OF YOU. IF THE NUMBER ON YOUR LABEL IS 101 AND IT IS HIGHLIGHTED ITS TIME TO RENEW PLEASE DON'T MISS AN ISSUE.
