Knight Hack

Inspiration

by Philip J. Viverito

Knight Hack was the first of our Hack Rule books. It is now going back into production and will be featured at Origins and Historicon. While I have been attempting to get this title updated it was only after revisiting El Cid the film along with finding Southey's 1808 translation of the Chronicle of the Cid that I really got fired up to finish this.

Here are some of the concepts and things Knight Hack will include. Eight and a half inches by eleven inches, color cover, inside diagrams, line drawings and black and white graphics. The book will have both Table of Contents and Index. As in my other books there will be a Special Add-Tactics section, army composition (lists) and an appendix covering the later years of the Middle Ages.

The rules will take up with a core system that begins in 1000 A.D. ending circa 1250 A.D. An appendix will take on completing the Medieval period to 1400 A.D. Knight Hack will follow the standard Classical Hack turn sequence with some minor changes. In approach it will be more like Homeric Hack than Classical Hack. Being set in a narrower period there will be greater specific mechanics to be played out and used.

Basing and terrain are covered much in my usual fashion. As for formations and such there will be numerous diagrams and details. Morale and Melee remain much the same too. The D-10 system is being retained but for those who like a more exact computation system they will be able to find the required information online and free.

As with Homeric Hack I am going with a simpler unit value and melee value set of charts cover the respective armies based on political geographic considerations. Less is proving to be better so forget about doing tons of multiplication and addition to create armies. For better or worse it will be done for you.

I will be test playing my new at both Origins and Historicon so please join in if you can or send your ideas to me on line.

If you liked Homeric Hack you will love Knight Hack Third Edition.
