This issue, I have some rather important news for the readers of The Grenadier. Starting with the next issue, The Grenadier will have a new publisher: Californian Jeff Tibbetts. Some years ago, GDW began the Europa Newsletter, which was an irregularly published newsletter containing news, scenarios, and history articles of interest to Europa players and friends of the Workshop. The encouraging response to the newsletter prompted The Grenadier, which was (and is) a quarterly magazine covering the entire field of historical simulations with a special emphasis on GDW games and Europa. The magazine has continually grown in all areas from its inception: quality, size, experience, and circulation are examples of growth that come immediately to mind. This growth is very rewarding, but it has caused a dilemma at the Workshop: the time required in editorial pursuits for the magazine exceeds the time I can spend with the magazine. Most of my attention is commanded by my duties as a game developer for GDW; I have edited The Grenadier in the time I have been able to snatch from those duties. While it is satisfying to see each new issue that I have edited enter print, I find it even more rewarding to see new games that I have developed enter print. The situation is similar for the other GDW staffers. To rescue GDW from this dilemma, Jeff Tibbetts, an entrepreneur in the hobby and longtime gamer and friend of the Workshop, purchased the magazine. He will be the new publisher, and Michael Sloan will become the new editor. Under them, I am confident that The Grenadier will see continued growth and success. The new editorial address is The Grenadier, 2950 San Pablo Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94702. The next issue will appear in May. Following this column is a letter of introduction by the new publisher to the readership. Dear John:I want to thank Game Designers' Workshop very much for entrusting The Grenadier to me. The Workshop's dedication to producing the highest quality products possible has set a benchmark for all operations and innovations which will be undertaken at The Grenadier. The new Grenadier will encompass a hobby-wide overview while retaining its original focus on Europa and the Workshop. The Grenadier will concentrate its energies on providing in-depth analyses of outstanding games and game systems, and at the same time will review as many games as possible in order to provide the gamer with the information which he needs to assist him in selecting and purchasing the games and gamerelated products which best meet his criteria. My thanks again to the Workshop for their confidence and for the foundation which they have given me.
