Pendragon Gaming Update

by Roderick Robertson

Well, the season has turned once again. The harvest in, or nearly, and soon we'll be staying indoors and making our experience checks.

Green Knight attended Origins and GenCon and met a lot of fans. As the brand new Line Developer, I started learning the ropes of all that meet-and-greet and schmoozing. I met a lot of artists and hopeful writers, and came away with new friends, new ideas, and new goodies.

We brought out "Tales of Chivalry and Romance" at GenCon. A compilation of four adventures from the Chaosium Digest polished by Shannon Appel, with additional short adventures highlighting either Chivalry or Romance. We hope to produce more of these short adventure books, focusing on different aspects of Arthur'ss Britain. I envision "Tales of" books for Saxons, Picts, Ladies, Troubadors, Feasts, Battles, or anything else people are willing to write about.

We should have the "Tales of Magic and Miracles" in by Thanksgiving. Tales of Magic & Miracles is the same format as the Tales of Chivalry and Romance. Like Tales of Chivalry and Romance, these are adventures that first appeared in the Chaosium Digest and were edited by Shannon Appel. We have artwork by Thomas Manning, Jim Pavelec, Tina Drust-Hoffman and Ellen Robertson. Both of these Tales books have been waiting on the shelf as long as my own Saxons book.

And speaking of our favorite bloodthirsty invaders, I'm trying to get Saxons! out for end-of-year. We've got artwork, maps, and writing, now to put it all together. Saxons will cover the early period of the saga, taking the periods back to Vortigern, Hengist and Horsa. The Saxon Campaign will cover the period between Uther and the Battle of Badon, but never fear, we not only have information on the "wild" Saxons for later play, but new rules for foster and half-breed children as well. We have several adventures, a home base for Saxon characters, and the Battle of Badon (which can be played from either side; the heroic-but-doomed Saxons, or the followers of the upstart -- err, valiant vassals of the High king).

Further down the pipeline we have a single book reprinting two classic books: "Tournament of Dreams" and "The Grey Knight," a reprint of "The Spectre King," a new edition of "Pagan Shore," the 5th edition of the Pendragon rules, Buttonmen (or, what to do while waiting for the rest of the game group to show up), a Grail sourcebook, a Faery sourcebook, and that's just what we have contracts for! We are looking over proposals for a Roman book, a book on Warfare (including a miniatures wargame for us tactical, toy-soldier types), one on Tournaments, and a non-collectable card game based on the Mythos rules from Chaosium. Let's see, that should run out to mid 2002 or more.
