The Pendragon Faire in Oklahoma achieved what I had anticipated: a beautiful production, and light attendance. The costumes were top-notch, the acting superb, the setting delightful. What seemed to have impacted the show most was limited advertizing in the two adjacent metropolitan areas (Tulsa and Oklahoma City), and typical first-year venue unfamiliarity. Also, the time of year was at the height of summer heat, and in the future, there would indeed be better weekends to hold an outdoor event in the midwest. The Arthurian Order of Avalon, from Norman, OK, was superb in their entertaining and educational skits about medieval life and beliefs. The musicians and artisans had all first-rate entertainment and wares to delight the customers. There were hawks and horses on display, and exotic camels from far away. Would that we had an audience of twice the size to do them justice! Considering the light attendance, sales of Pendragon were adequate. The Arthurian Companion was the most popular title. My inkling hope, that through experience with the live theatrical performance, people would want to learn more about Arthur, and take home something more tangible to learn more, was indeed realized. One mother bought a set of roleplaying products for her son and husband, thinking it would be perfect for them to play together. I gave away a few 20-sided dice to kids who had never seen polyhedral dice before. We'll have to see how the future unfolds before committing to another major project like this. It was a great lesson, and many people seemed positive about the experience. I even went back to Kansas City and ran an evening's Pendragon game for over a dozen of the cast members!
