Live Action Pendragon News

LARP

by Peter Corless

Neil Laughlin in the San Francisco Bay Area, Northern California, and Alex Ferguson, of University College Cork, Ireland, have been collaborating on a "free form" or "live action" roleplaying game for Pendragon. It is anticipated to be ready for it's world premiere runs in North America and Europe some time in January.

Here's some tentative details, including a "working title" (subject to change):

The King of the Woods

An Arthurian Live Actiun Role-Playing (LARP) adventure
for 20 characters, lasting 4-8 hours.

"Hear-ye! Hear-ye!" the heralds cry. Ladio Fiona of Arden has called for knights of King Arthur's realm to compete in a tournament, the winner of which shall gain the prize and the title of "King of the Woods." Who will attend? Oh, surely the best knights of the realm. Gawaine and his younger brother Mordred, their mother Queen Margawse, and Queen Guenevere are openly in attendance. But who are all those knights in disguise? Who are the ladies behind their wimples and scarves? Rumors abound, and mystery surrounds the event. Surely this will be a grand adventure!

More information will be available for the December 1998 update, but I felt Pendragon fans around the world would be delighted to know Green Knight recognizes the diverse popular formats for roleplaying extend beyond tabletop and dice games.

As the free form game gels in production quality, a "kit" form may be made available to those seriously interested in hosting free-form/LARP roleplaying events at local conventions or private convocations.
