At this year's very successful Napoleonic Fair, recently held in London, the Napoleonic Association started a year of celebrating their 25th anniversary and marked the event by presenting Silver Jubilee Awards. There were six awards, and Greenhill Books received a cut crystal tankard for being: The UK Commercial Organisation Best Promoting Napoleonic History Other Napoleonic Association Awards included:
Most significant individual contribution to the study of Napoleonic history: Mr. Ian Fletcher The individual or organiation most responsible for raising the public profile of Napoleonic history within the UK: Mr Bernard Cornwell The number of visitors coming to the Napoleonic Fair this year was again excellent, with there being a line at the door for the 9.30 am. Sunday morning opening. Visitors came for the event from the United States, France, Belgium, Germany and for the first time from Spain and Italy. To recognise this, the event will in future be called The International Napoleonic Fair. The presentations in the lecture theatre each had two hundred or more in the audience. The presentation for The Napoleon Options had six of the contributors talk about their provocative alternative approach to the Napoleonic Wars, being presented as fact rather than fiction or discussion. There were a number of pointed questions from the floor. Colonel John Elting 'in conversation with' Dr Christopher Duffy was a delightful event, full of knowledge, humour, insight and perspective. Professor John Gallaher presented a masterfield lecture on Marshal Davout, chaired by Colonel John Hughes-Wilson. The new book The Napoleon Options was launched at the Napoleonic Fair with an unique panel discussion with six of the contributors. This photograph shows some of the two hundred in the audience for this presentation at the Napoleonic Fair standing in line to get their copies of the book autographed by this unique assemblage of authors.
