Pocket Battleships

by Lionel Leventhal

Following on from the success of Battleships of the Bismarck Class and Battleships of the Scharnhorst Class, Greenhill will shortly be releasing Pocket Battleships of the Deutschland Class. This book follows the successful format of the first two books and presents the dramatic lives of the Panzerschiffe, Deutschland, Admiral Graf Spee and Admiral Scheer through photographs, captions and primary source material.

Gerhard Koop, in his Foreword, indicates the importance of these world-class warships:

The three Panzerschilk - annour-clad ships - of the Deutschland class were the first heavy units to be built by Germany after World War 1, and they replaced obsolete pre- dreadnought battleships of the Imperial Navy under the provision of the 1919 Treaty of Versailles. The design was completely successful even though the hull shape, the arrangement of the armament and, above all, the propulsion machinery were revolutionary in concept.

Pocket Battleships of the Deutschland Class explains the development stage, provides a detailed overview of the important facts and figures and recounts the career history of each vessel separately, supplemented by documentary evidence, War Diary extracts and combat reports. Also provided are detailed sketches, technical tables and a comprehensive selection ofphotographs not previously published in this compact form.

Pocket Battleships of the Deutschland Class (ISBN 1-85367-402-8) has 224 pages, 352 photos and 45 diagrams and maps.
