This attractive pictorial series continues successfully and two new books, which will bring the total of the books in the series to twelve, are to be published shortly. One completes the trilogy by Peter C. Smith on the Stuka. Peter Smith's first book was Stuka Spearhead, then came Stukas Over the Steppe, and now comes: STUKAS OVER THE MEDITERRANEAN, 1940–1945 The Stuka, although destined primarily for ground support in Hitler's major campaigns of conquest, also saw action over the Mediterranean, Italy, the Balkans and North Africa. Indeed, the Ju 87 had first seen action in southern Europe, flying in support of Franco's forces in the Spanish Civil War. The impact of this dive-bomber was as great here as in Russia and France and, whether bombing Malta or destroying Allied convoys, the Stuka earned a fearsome reputation. This superb addition to the Luftwaffe at War Series presents over one hundred rare photographs of German and Italian Ju 87s and examines their role in diverse campaigns such as the attack on Yugoslavia, the conquest of Greece, the battle for Crete, the air war in support of the Afrika Korps, the blitz on Malta, anti-shipping operations, the defence of Italy and operations by the night flying squadrons. The famous German aviation expert Manfred Griehl has contributed three books to the Luftwaffe at War Series, and his new, fourth book is: GERMAN BOMBERS OVER ENGLAND, 1940–1945 As Hitler's troops celebrated the conquest of France, the Germans prepared to unleash the largest and most aggressive bomber force in the world on their hapless British enemy. Directing the bulk of their forces against RAF bases in the south of England, the Luftwaffe began a punishing series of daylight raids. In addition Luftwaffe bombers flew against ports and key installations across Britain. By September 1940, the emphasis had switched to attacking London and, from then to the final year of the war, the Luftwaffe bombers – flying by day or by night – were directed against British cities. Manfred Griehl has drawn on his own valuable archive to present rare photographs of the German bombers and their crews. Covering such mainstays of the German arsenal as the He 111s, JU 87Bs, Ju 88A-1s, Do 17Zs, and even Do 217s and He 177 A-3s, this major addition to the Luftwaffe at War Series is a unique and valuable guide to Germany's bomber force.
