New Books

Luftwaffe at War Series

The first half of the year sees two new titles in the Series, raising the number of books in it to ten.

The first is Stukas Over the Steppe by Peter C. Smith, a companion volume to the author's Stuka Spearhead. The Stukas blazed a trail of destruction across the Russian steppe as a crucial element of Operation Barbarossa. Acting as flying artillery to the armies of the Third Reich, the Stukas flew in support of the ground forces above the clash of Hitler's Germany and Stalin's Soviet Union.

This new book book captures the many roles adopted by the Ju 87 in this demanding theatre – from dive-bomber to tank-buster – and the varieties of plane type.

The second new book German Jets by Manfred Griehl, portrays the rise of the jet fighters and fighter-bombers and vividly captures the wartime career of Germany's wonder weapons. With more than one hundred rare images, this comprehensive study examines the jets' appearance and markings and the pilots who flew and tested the aircraft. Such celebrated aircraft as the Me 262 and Ar 234 sit side by side with lesser known types including the He 162, Ho 229 V5 and H IX, and serve as testament to Germany's technological ingenuity in the face of bombing, shortages and defeat.

Also by Manfred Griehl in the Luftwaffe at War Series are:

    Fighters Over Russia
    Nightfighters Over the Reich
