Over 1,600 images, including nearly 200 in colour, are published in the G.I. Series and represent a truly unique published pictorial archive, and one of the most extensive collections of images of the American soldier ever assembled and made available to the public. The Index pinpoints the key topics covered by the authors in their texts and acts as a precise guide to the wealth of images contained in the series. Dr John P. Langellier Dr Langellier has written five of the titles in the G.I. Series and co-authored two others. He has also written or edited dozens of other books and articles, as well as served as a consultant to numerous motion pictures and television programs. Dr Langellier received his bachelor's and master's degrees in History from the University of San Diego. In 1982 he was awarded his PhD in Military History from Kansas State Univerity. From 1973 through 1985 he served in various assignments as museum director and historian with the United States Army. Later he became the director of state museums for Wyoming, a position he held until joining the executive staff of the Autry Museum of Western Heritage. After nearly ten years with that institution, he accepted the directorship of the Civil Engineer Corps and Seabee Museums with the United States Navy, a position he presently holds. Dr Langellier has been a member of the Council on America's Past for a quarter of a century and was elected a fellow of the Company of Military Historians in 1976.
