Several very successful books are on the Greenhill list only in the United States, for distribution via Stackpole Books. These include The Encyclopedia of Military Modelling, which originates with Hamlyn, and several from Brown Packaging such as The Survival Handbook and Weapons and Equipment of the SAS. Now Greenhill are releasing in the United States a fine new book of very special and timely interest, but which can be made available in Britain although is likely to have only a limited audience. The book is: "A Splendid Little War" The Spanish-American War, 1898 The Artists' Perspective by Peter Harrington and Frederic Sharf Some notable artists covered the Spanish-American War of 1898 for the illustrated press and these included William Glackens, Howard Chandler Christy, Henry Reuterdahl and Frederic Remington. To commemorate the centenary of the war, the Anne S. K. Brown Military Collection is mounting a major exhibition of the work of these war artists. "A Splendid Little War" is a superbly illustrated catalogue to accompany the centenial exhibition, and provides an overview of the drawings, watercolours and prints as well as providing biographical details on the artists themselves. With pictures from the Frederic A. Sharf Collection, West Point Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Anne S. K. Brown Collection, at Brown University, the exhibition provides a wealth of images on this war which ranged from Cuba to the Philippines and involved young Americans who would later become famous, such as a certain Theodore Roosevelt. The exhibition, also entitled A Splendid Little War, will be touring in the USA to Brown University, West Point Museum, Flagler Museum and other places over the next two years. "A Splendid Little War" will be published in April. The format is 9" x 11", and it is a large format paperback with 88 pages which includes 45 printed pages of which 15 are in colour. The UK retail price will be £ 14.95 and in the UK "A Splendid Little War" will be available only to special order. Address orders to Mark Wray at Greenhill Books, London.
