1815: The Waterloo Campaign
Wellington, His German Allies
and the Battles of
Ligny and Quatre Bras

by Peter Hofschroer

1. Previously unpublished eyewitness accounts of the twin battles of Ligny and Quatre Bras capture the drama and adventure of Napoleonic warfare.

2. The role of the Prussian Army and of the 15,000 Hanoverians fighting in Wellington's forces is revealed and their crucial contribution to Waterloo - 'The German Victory' - puts the campaign into an entirely new perspective.

3. The book throws controversial new light on Wellington's relationship with the Prussians. It reaches startling conclusions as to whether Wellington deceived his Prussian allies into facing the bulk of Napoleon's forces alone at Ligny and had them absorb the impetus of the French assault three days before Waterloo.

4. This controversial book will shatter pre-conceived ideas on the events of 1815 and require a radical rethink of the entire campaign. The allegations contained in this volume will plunge Napoleonic scholarship into fierce debate.

Peter Hofschroer is a respected Napoleonic scholar and the author of Prussian Line Infantry of thc Napoleonic Wars 1792-1815, and The Hanoverian Anny of the Napoleonic Wars. He will be debating the controversies contained in this book at the Napoleonic Fair held in London in February 1998.

A second volume, which concentrates on the clash of three annies at Waterloo and takes the narrative right up to the fall of Napoleon, will be published in 1999.
