The German offensive in North Africa, coupling the powers of Rommel, the 'Desert Fox', with the superb elan of the German Afrika Korps, is widely regarded as one of he most astonishing military achievements of World War II. German war artist Kurt Caesar travelled with the Afrika Korps and illustrated their campaign with evocative and detailed drawings. Rommel's Year of Victory combines these contemporary llustrations with new text by James Lucas, who has provided a gripping narrative of he operations, as perceived by the Germans, and reveals the day to day life of the German soldier in the desert. The illustrations, made during the course of the campaign itself, in the desert and on the battlefield, capture the essence of the men of the Afrika Korps, their equipment and life in the harsh conditions of a harsh continent. The book includes a Foreword by Erwin Rommel, from when an edition with some of these illustrations that was published in Germany in 1943. The new English-language edition, which presents both the illustrations published in wartime Germany and thers never seen before, has a Preface by Barrie Pitt.
