Three 'Special Forces' Manuals

Fast Track to Publication

by Lionel Levanthal

In light of the increasing demand for information on the equipment of special forces and counter-terrorist units, Greenhill are releasing three indispensable contributions to their Military Manuals series to cover each aspect of this intricate area of warfare. These are:

Counter-Terrorism Equipment, by Ian V. Hogg
The World’s Elite Forces: Arms and Equipment, by Will Fowler
The World’s Elite Forces: Small Arms and Accessories, by John Walter

Counter-Terrorism Equipment, first published in 1996, has been updated by Ian Hogg in light of the events of 11 September. In a world where terrorists are getting more numerous, technical and ruthless, Hogg indicates the lengths to which the new generation of police and security forces need to go, to keep ahead of the evildoers. In addition to analysis of key items, Hogg also discusses more generally the advances made in firearms, sights and aiming aids, access control and perimeter protection, surveillance systems, detection devices, explosive ordnance disposal and specialised vehicles.

The World’s Elite Forces: Arms and Equipment is, in the words of its author, Will Fowler, a study of the ‘super forces’ who have taken many of the basic fighting skills and refined them to the highest levels. Originally published by Greenhill as Arms and Equipment of Special Forces, and containing information on anti-tank weapons, mortars, electronic warfare and fast attack vehicles, it is now being re-released as a companion to John Walter’s new manual, The World’s Elite Forces: Small Arms and Accessories.

Small Arms and Accessories is the essential guide to guns, grenades, optical sights, knives, bayonets, and other tools in service with special forces across the globe. While the role of the marksman continues to occupy a key part of technological development, the most dramatic advent in recent years has been the refinement of sights and observation tools. Laser designators and range-finders have steadily pushed back the barriers of darkness, and the movement of individual soldiers can now be detected to 500m or more, even under overcast conditions.

All three Greenhill Military Manuals are fully illustrated with photographs and technical drawings, and have full-colour covers. They will be available from January 2002.
