Aim 10mm Ancients and ACW

Figure Review

by Tony Quickenden

Lancashire Games hove recently taken over AIM, but happily are continuing to produce their finely sculpted figures, of present covering Ancients, ECW, ACW, and Fantasy ranges. 10mm is definitely expanding in popularity as a scale and I must say it seems to me that it is really the ideal wargaming scale for anything larger than skirmish games - individual figures are still large enough to have a certain personality whilst being small enough to not require each button and piece of lace to be arduously painted on. But the real advantage is in the mass effect -- at average player-to-figure distances they give quite the correct 'feel' of viewing large bodies of men. Anyhow, on to the figures. Up for review this time are a selection of ACW, Ancient Mocabean Jewish & what appears to be Thracian cavalry.

Figures stand at 11mm from head fo toe, which seems to be the overage amongst 10mm manufacturers. The ACW infantry come in variations of headgear and equipment, but the real bonus Is that there are as many as four different figure positions all very convincingly animated within each pack. The level of detail Is excellent and at least the equal of most 15mm figures on the market, the figures being substantial without appearing clumsy or bulky.

Altogether the figures represent excellent value for money at £1.00 per 20 Infantry or 10 cavalry, and we look forward to reviewing the rest of the range in future issues of The Gaunfbl.
