Palm Trees Made Easy

Terrain Tip

by Mark Hannam

1) Start with a basic template like the one opposite.

2) Draw it too size that seems to fit the scale of your figures.

3) Cut out several In thin plastic, I have been known to use margarine tube, or cardboard.

4) Sand slightly down the centre of each leaf. Make cuts in the leaf 2/3rds to the 'spine'. Whether you have a few or lots of cuts depends upon where your trees are supposed to be, check al the library.

5) Take a cocktail stick 8/15mm or B-B-Q skewer 20/25mm and using the back of a knife blade, press rings into the 'trunk'.

6) Soak the 'trunks' over night and bend to desired angle.

7) Take 2 to 4 sets of fronds and push onto the top of the trunk. Make sure that each successive frond over laps the previous to gel a 'staggered' effect. I use 'White Glue' to keep in place.

8) Knock the still sharpened hood of the 'trunk' Hot to help keep the fronds on and look more realistic.

9) This Is where you find that you should have pointed the leaves before gluelng them in place.
