Fellow Historians:

Magazines. I left off a couple magazines that I subscribe to from last issue. First and foremost is Zouave. What a great magazine and in a great format. My hearty congratulations to Ivor Janci for the fine job he does with this magazine. And for those of you who don't know, Ivor is a also a big fan of the Russian Civil War. I also subscribe to Military History. What a great magazine!

I am sorry to say a few things about Gauntlet Publications. Gauntlet Publications is now a subdivision of Gauntlet International. 54mm Figures (from Kazintsev Factory in Ekaterinburg) is also a subdivision. Gauntlet International is now the umbrella organization for imports/exports. I am fully involved in translating and developing this market. But… it takes almost all of my time and I need to spend even more on my interpretation/translation and international law. Consequently, I cannot devote an appropriate amount of time on The Gauntlet. Here is what is going to change.

- The Gauntlet U.S. quarterly magazine will not be continued past issue 21 (for now that is). I cannot accept any re-subscriptions beyond that. The Gauntlet may return when I return to the U.S., but that will be after my retirement from the Marine Corps. If you have subscribed beyond that, you will get a per issue refund depending on how many issues you have left. Issue 21 will represent exactly 3 1/2 years of publication time.

- Gauntlet Publications - magazine Back Issues, Rules (like Cross of Iron, Panzerknacker, Pirates, Modern Africa, etc), and Scenarios (like Rompan el Fuego), will continue as a subdivision of Gauntlet International and will be available from Warhawk Hobbies, who has graciously agreed to take over this part of the business.

- Gauntlet Books is the side of the business involved with the import/export of books & magazines published in the Soviet Union & Russia. This business is going stronger than ever. Look for new titles each month and always keep your eyes open for many unique purchases (like the Official History of the RCW recently offered & sold out).

- Gauntlet Militaria Shop is now open and fully operational. These items will only be available through internet purchase as I turn them around so fast. I have these items no longer than one week. I am focusing on MiG Fighter Pilot Helmets, flight suits, oxygen masks, and some specialized hardware (Night Vision Optics, Cameras, body armor).

- Articles & Advertising. You'll see Gauntlet Publications continue by providing an article for each issue of MWAN. I'll also try to keep an updated ad in MWAN. Additionally, my web site will be my voice. It will be my complete on-line catalogue.

Am I going out of business? NO WAY!!! I have to concentrate my efforts where they will do the most people the most good. For those of you who have bought books from me and are still waiting for the translation, I rest my case. The books have incredibly valuable information that will take a linguist to unlock. I can do this for folks, but only if I have the time. It all comes down to time. There definitely is not a lack of desire on my part. I love doing the Gauntlet, but I also know that I am in a unique position to provide some great products to the rest of the world. When I leave here, these things will no longer be available. I am building a very large personal collection that will be unlocked only after I get back to the U.S. Then I hope to be able to translate large quantities of the text and get that out to the rest of the English-speaking world.

Any questions - contact Gauntlet International (that's me!).

Lots of great things out there and I hope that I can provide them. However, there is so very little room for the Gauntlet right now. I may revive the Gauntlet when I get back to the U.S. in the year 2003, but no guarantees.. I hate to say it, but yet another amateur historical miniature wargaming magazine goes the way of the Romans. And thus, the reason for the cover...

So much history. So little time. Good luck on those morale rolls!
